We were staying at one of the local houses to this hotel, and came in to see if they were able to offer food. We had a very warm welcome. We were staying at one of the local houses to this hotel, and came in to see if they were able to offer food. We had a very warm welcome. Unfortunately, we don't speak any German but we were then welcomed by an English speaking lady, who explained the menu. We still was able to have a laugh with our waitress even with language barriers, she was lovely. The food and drink was just perfect, and the setting of the hotel on the edge of a forest is great for walkers. Thank you.

Hotel is located in very small village of Waldesch SE of Koblenz and very accessible from the Autobahn. Very modern and stylish with free parking in its own grounds. Rooms large and comfortable with execellent baths. Staff fair, hostess-owner welcoming, but owner-chef speaks no English. Don't believe the instructions for checkin on Booking.com. Our arrival at 2000 was a source of irritation to the owners who expected a call that we were going to be late, even though the advertised checkin is 2100. Dinner was superb, as was a bountiful breakfast. Good thing, because no other places to eat in Waldesh. Koblenz is only 5-10 minutes away by car. We were charged 1,5 euro for WiFi - in our rooms. Seemed nickel and dime as it was free in the lobby. Overall, this is an excellent hotel which was fully booked. If you have a car, consider it. If not, it will prove inconvenient.

Summary: great choice if you're there to explore the region and both the rivers that enclose this stretch of land. Let me start off by saying that this hotel apparently just got an entire makeover: there were still some handymen around fixing up the roof of a wing that we weren't in, and the hotel restaurant had only re-opened for business on the very day we arrived (which was a stroke of luck.) This means that the old review in German that you can find below that bashes the hotel is not at all applicable anymore - it had me doubting before we chose this place, but now I'd definitely choose this place again if we visit this region again. Rooms: so the rooms were good. They weren't exceptional, but you wouldn't expect that in this price class. The beds were on the soft side, which some people enjoy, but I started to get some minor backache after four nights. Please note that I have an exceptionally tough mattress at home, though; I'm not dissing, just trying to help other travelers. The rooms were very spacious, with plenty of closet space and conveniently placed light fixtures and power outlets. We had a nice view over the garden and the village with the forest in the background. Location: right on the edge of the village, bordering the (very cultivated and almost park-like) forest. Every day we could take an after-dinner constitutional walk through the woods, which was very relaxing and which you do not get with many other hotels. The town of Waldesch has a large supermarket three minutes by car from the hotel, where you can stock up on hiking supplies or midnight snacks. Good roads will get you to the river Moselle or the river Rhine in about ten to fifteen minutes. I'm not even going to list all the castles and ruins and quaint rustic towns you can reach from here (and let's not forget Koblenz and the huge fortress Ehrenbreitstein) but especially Stolzenfelz, Ehrenburg and Schloß Thurant are close. Breakfast: pretty wide range of local cold cuts (charcuterie) and cheeses, paté, boiled eggs, but also all the usual sweet toppings. Fresh baked rolls, bread, rye, cereals, yoghurt, apple juice and orange juice (those two were from a carton, I guess, not fresh) and nicely cut slices of cantaloupe and water melon. A pot of coffee on your table, a newspaper, and the cook came out every morning to ask whether you wanted a baked or scrambled egg. Restaurant: good selection of dishes, including fish, meat, or vegetarian options; we had dinner at the restaurant all evenings of our stay, because we felt not need to go anywhere else (also: this way we could easily profit from the after-dinner-forest-walk possibility the hotel's location offers.) Because we require gluten free food for medical reasons, we had to discuss with the chef which options were open to us, but this was not at all a problem. In fact, he cook even suggested a couple of dished that weren't on the menu, to increase our range of choices.

However, although the hotel was a good find a few years ago with an EXCELLENT restaurant, it seems from recent reviews that there is no restaurant and the rooms, which were spacious but in need of renovation when we stayed there, are now even more in need of renovation. The location is superb, so quiet.
