We spent two nights at Hotel Emmental while we were hiking through Switzerland, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our room was located on the 1st floor on the back side of the building, and although there was some road noise during the day it was quiet to sleep at night. In addition to two double beds the room had a little sitting area and plenty of storage in a cabinet against the wall. Good shower with decent water pressure, could have used a bit more storage space in the bathroom. Very little shelf space around the sink, we ended up keeping most of our toiletries on a table outside the bathroom. No coffee in the room, but there was a station on the 1st floor where you could prepare coffee or tea if desired. Breakfast was good, nice selection of breads and cheeses along with yogurt and cereal and a station where you can boil an egg. Liked the Swiss butter from the region. We did have dinner at the hotel one night. The drinks were excellent, food was well prepared but I would not call it Tex-Mex as it was lacking a bit in spices or flavor you typically find. They did bring out a couple of different hot sauces, which spiced things up a bit. This was one of the better values we found during our 3 week hike, and I would definitely stay here again if we ever return to Thun.

“A charming place”

Centrally located, just a few steps from the pedestrian zone. Reasonably priced for Swiss circumstances. Discounted parking at a nearby parkhouse. We had no problems that the hotel had no A/C, but it could be an issue with the temperatures that prevailed end of June 2025. Being without an elevator… lisää

Centrally located, just a few steps from the pedestrian zone. Reasonably priced for Swiss circumstances. Discounted parking at a nearby parkhouse. We had no problems that the hotel had no A/C, but it could be an issue with the temperatures that prevailed end of June 2025. Being without an elevator didn't bother us either. Their restaurant offers burgers, fajitas, and even a daily menu. It was tasty, and so was the breakfast, especially the homemade jams.

Well, a sort of western cowboy themed hotel in the restaurant/ bar/ reception No lift so a challenge to take cases up any of the three floors No tea or coffee in the rooms The main issue was its location on the edge of a 5 road roundabout. Traffic noise was deafening and it was necessary to keep the windows closed due to the noise. This also meant the balcony could not be enjoyed. Breakfast was mediocre. Most of the staff were pleasant enough

“We were happy with this hotel, but don’t believe it represented good value.”

We stayed 2 nights at the Hotel Emmental while visiting beautiful Thun. The staff were friendly, efficient and courteous. The room was reasonable size. We were located on level 3, but note there is no lift/elevator, which is a challenge if you have lots of luggage. There is no traditional reception… lisää

We stayed 2 nights at the Hotel Emmental while visiting beautiful Thun. The staff were friendly, efficient and courteous. The room was reasonable size. We were located on level 3, but note there is no lift/elevator, which is a challenge if you have lots of luggage. There is no traditional reception (the bar staff cover this). Rooms don’t have real good sound-proofing (the traffic noise can be annoying, and privacy of the guests in the adjoining room could have been compromised). Discounted parking is off-site, and close by, but we found the payment mechanism challenging. Considering the rate paid, I don’t believe this hotel represented good value.
