Mind blown to be honest.We had booked a Watervilla overlooking the beautiful ocean.I have never experienced anything like it.The best accommodation in Zanzibar.I will be going back each and everytime that I am in Zanzibar.

After spending a month in Africa we finished with a week at Le Mersenne. The stay was magical. This beautiful property is supported by an amazing staff. Chef Aggrey provides an array of incrediblly flavorful meals supported by a staff of friendly charming people. The pool and pool bar introduced us to an assortment tropical flavors. Dawa the Swahili word for medicine was quickly my favorite. The entire staff was friendly and attentive making sure we had a wonderful stay.

**I’m writing this review about two months after the visit, so unfortunately I’m short on some names I would have liked to acknowledge. I stayed here with my two daughters (7 & 9) for three and a half days in late December 2025. We had a fantastic time! The staff was incredibly pleasant. Special kudos to June at the front desk who was excellent for assisting in organizing our day trip to Stonetown and Prison Island. For our stay we were upgraded to a Karibu (one bedroom) ocean view villa with a small private pool. From all of the global travel I’ve done the staff at the restaurant were the best I’ve experienced. They went above and beyond, especially with my younger one’s picky food choices. The breakfast offering was expansive otherwise. Besides the usual, we ate a lot of fresh fruits like passion fruit and pawpaw (papaya). Dinner options were great, especially the Swahili night, where I had some of the softest ugali ever. The nighttime entertainment was certainly a highlight for the kids and myself. There was a group which did a dance routine with acrobatic stunts to different music genres, and a different routine each night. Boat rides to the nearby Sandbank and snorkeling were well organized and easy to reach from the hotel’s jetty near the ocean front cabanas. The hotel is well maintained as far as the landscape and building structures including the main pool (adult & kid sections), gym and spa (major kudos to the massage therapist Gloria). Note, kids can also get a massage which mine both enjoyed. The only downside to the hotel is the weathering impact to some of the wooden walk paths. However, these appeared to be under renovations while we were there. As others have mentioned the hotel secluded and about 1.5 hours from Stonetown. However, Paje beach is only a 15 taxi minute ride. Overall, to quote the kids, “this hotel deserves five stars and the stay was amazing!”

“Exceptional service”

This is a beautiful hotel on the beach, with exceptional staff. Rooms are fabulous, facilities (pool, lobby, gardens) are top notch. We had a super special time thanks to an upgrade by the staff. This is a beautiful hotel on the beach, with exceptional staff. Rooms are fabulous, facilities (pool, lobby, gardens) are top notch. We had a super special time thanks to an upgrade by the staff. There are plenty of paid activities on the water. My biggest disappointment was the food. I am not a chef, but I did teach a couple of chefs how to make a tasty omelette. The bread and pastries, although baked daily at the premises per staff, felt a bit stale. Fresh fruit and juices were their saving grace. Dinner is OK, but at the price point, it’s hugely disappointing. The beach is rocky and unsuitable for swimming. However, the daily trips to the sandbanks are great. I would also recommend the snorkelling activity. Please improve the food and a 5 star review is guaranteed.
