The pool area is peaceful and well maintained, and the private beach is simply breathtaking—clean, quiet, and ideal for unwinding. Whether you want to relax under the sun or take a refreshing swim, everything is perfectly arranged. One of the highlights of our stay was the food. The restaurant offers a wide variety of delicious dishes, both local and international, all prepared with great care and quality ingredients. Every meal was a pleasure. What truly made this stay unforgettable was the staff. Every team member was attentive, kind, and always ready to help with a smile. Their attention to detail and commitment to guest satisfaction really stood out.

Madinat al Bahr is really striking and unique in appearance, inside and out - almost like an Ottoman palace or something! Madinat al Bahr is really striking and unique in appearance, inside and out - almost like an Ottoman palace or something! We stayed here for 6 nights in March 2026, after our Serengeti tour in mainland Tanzania. Madinat al Bahr was a lovely property for a relaxing stay. We loved the pool and the service was great. We found the staff very friendly and attentive and we enjoyed the meals we could order by the pool. We had an 'executive room' on the top floor, overlooking the pool. It was a spacious room and the service from the housekeepers was very good. Same with the staff at the front desk and the others we dealt with at the pool and the restaurants. The buffet breakfasts were fine and the options for dinner at night were also good. As well as the main restaurant where the breakfast buffet was served, there was a separate 'Chinese/Thai' restaurant with an outdoor terrace that we enjoyed a few times. The hotel is very convenient to the airport, and they offer a free transfer service to and from the airport or the ferry terminal. However it is maybe a 10 minute drive in a taxi into Stonetown. This worked pretty well as the hotel has its own taxis, which are nice air-conditioned minivans. As far as we could tell, there are not really any restaurants or bars nearby that you could walk to from the hotel. We were OK with that, and were happy to mostly eat and drink at the hotel during our stay, although we had a few dinners in Stonetown after our excursions to see various attractions like the Freddie Mercury house.
