Siam Triangle hotel is located just by the mighty Mekong river, less than 10 min drive south of the Golden triangle town. Have in mind there's absolutely nothing to do in and around the hotel, nor in the town. They rent bicycles for free, so we went to a massage parlor 5 min away which was our outing that night, spending and hour and a half there having a very good and cheap massage. Hotel is little bit dated, but still in a good condition. We got the room overlooking Mekong which was nice to sit on the balcony in the evening sipping a drink, however with mosquitoes. Room was spacious and clean. Breakfast was OK with fresh prepared omelletes. They have a pool, but we didn't use it as we arrived pretty late and left early in the morning. Look for no other, I think this is the best in area and you'll spend only a night there anyway as there's nothing much to do in Golden Triangle.

We stayed at the Siam Triangle Hotel as part of our organized birding tour in northern Thailand. The hotel sits right beside the road and has a very spacious lobby. Our room was a standard king with river view and small balcony. The air was so thick with smoke however it was impossible to be outside without a mask. The poor air quality exists all over northern Thailand not just Chiang Saen but be aware it's a real problem in the winter months (Dec-March). Our room was adequately sized with modern bathroom and comfortable bed. The buffet breakfast was very nice with made to order eggs and coffee specialty drinks - a huge upgrade from the powdered stuff we were usually served. It's a nice hotel, - just unfortunate we couldn't be outside to enjoy the view.

A strange and soulless place but possibly the best available in the area. We stayed just one night on a private tour of northern Thailand and were pleased that it was just that. The hotel has a huge ground floor area with an atrium that has the bedrooms arranged looking down on the void and a small reception desk squeezed into one corner behind some incongruously parked pushbikes to rent. The receptionist was welcoming and spoke some English and a porter took our bags up to the room. Our impressions of the room were positive, spacious and comfortable with storage facilities, a fridge and kettle. There was also an air purifier which indicated that the air quality can be questionable. We had booked a superior room with a view of the river from the balcony that was large enough to sit out on. The bathroom arrangement was bizarre in the extreme. Glass door onto a bathtub and basin then a further glass door onto the toilet and shower. The water temperature and pressure were good but the curious arrangement meant that the toilet was sprayed from the shower and the floor remained wet for future visits to the toilet. The hotel is situated in a really good location on the banks of the Mekong overlooking Laos but is located a long way from the town and the Golden Triangle view point. We decided to have a drink on the slab of concrete that passes for a terrace. So much more could be made of this setting. A lone waiter served cold drinks from a retail chiller; beer, water or soft drinks. A swim was out of the question as there were leaves in the pool and the water wasn’t clear. As there was nothing within walking distance and we’d spent all day on the road we decided to eat in the hotel’s deserted dining room which was laid out like a school canteen. The limited menu was served until 8pm so hard luck for those checking in late. The food was actually quite good and the waiter was pleasant but it was not a place to linger. On investigation, we discovered a sign suggesting that once there had been a bar but this area is now an untidy storage space. We slept well once the noise of newly arrived groups, which carried up from the ground floor, had subsided but were awoken at 6.00, again by voices. We went for an early breakfast only to find that it was mediocre. Chemical tasting fruit drinks, a barely functioning coffee machine, no means of making tea and the jug on the hot plate was unpleasant Chinese tea. There were some hot Asian dishes but the western fare consisted of cooked ham or tinned hotdog sausages floating in water, sliced bread that could be lightly toasted in the catering sized toaster while the young man tasked with manning the egg station was sullen. It was altogether the least appealing breakfast offering throughout our travels in Thailand. To add insult to injury, we were not allowed to check out before the housekeeping staff had checked that we hadn’t trashed the room or stolen the fittings. In short, this seemed to be a halfhearted attempt at hospitality and the hotel would benefit from being taken over by a company with customer service expertise.

The photos looked a lot better than what it was. Very run down and the pool was really dirty when we arrived and wanted a swim. Room was clean but things were very old. You get what you pay for with this hotel. Ok for a night.
