One night stopover. What a lovely place. The room we had was very comfortable, king size bed, en-suite, coffee facilities. The place was immaculate. Staff were extremely warm and friendly and felt immediately welcome. The fools was delicious and good size. Would absolutely recommend a stay here just wish we could have stayed longer.

“Ideal”

First time back since 30+ years and the Oak has certainly changed for the better. Expanded and very lavish. We stayed with our pooch for one night. Everything was perfect from the evening's food right through to the following morning's breakfast. Sad to see other pubs and businesses in the are… lisää

Everything was perfect from the evening's food right through to the following morning's breakfast. Sad to see other pubs and businesses in the area are no longer there but the Oak goes from strength to strength

“A disappointment”

ARRIVAL We were given our key at the bottom of the stairs and told where our room was & off you go! What has ever happened to being shown to your room ? ARRIVAL We were given our key at the bottom of the stairs and told where our room was & off you go! What has ever happened to being shown to your room ? Also a form for pre ordering breakfast, not a fan of this. Who knows what they fancy for breakfast at 18:00 the night before? THE ROOM The first thing I spot when I walk in is the terrible carpet fitting, it has been cut short by the door and generally around the skirting it is not fitted that well. The wall lamp above the dressing table is damaged, marked, dusty and poorly fitted with complimentary cobwebs, as are the ones above the bed. The headboard is not wide enough for the bed, as a consequence it has only been secured on one side 🤔 on a positive note, the bed is very comfortable and we both had a good sleep. THE BATHROOM There is a really poor standard of finish, the sealing around the shower base to the tiles is bad, inside the shower there is mould appearing as the sealant hasn't been joined in the corners, there is paint on the shower door runner. Sealing around the bath is equally poor. There are paint splashes above the bath on the tiles & on the shower runner. The tiles on the outer edge of the bath look shabby with a skimming of silicone fraying and hanging off and they need re-grouting. All of these are easy inexpensive fixes. If this work has been done by a tradesman then he/she needs to find a trade they are good at as this is clearly not the right one for them. If it was DIY then might i suggest getting a tradesman as these things matter when paying £165.48 a night. The extractor fan is thick with dust behind the vent cover (not hygenic) and as a consequence is very noisy. The vanity unit looks terribly old with all of the vinyl peeling away on the legs. The sink has chips in it DINING Our starters had arrived and they were quickly followed by a gentleman asking about what we had written on the breakfast preorder. Namely that I had requested 3 rashers of bacon along with other items, 2 hash browns etc, he went on to say the chef had just gone "mental" over it ! May I point out that if your are going to have a preorder form and wish to operate it on a "tick box" layout, ie: tick box if you want bacon, sausage, egg etc and intend to only serve one of each item then that is how the form should be set out rather than an elongated column along side each item which suggests, how many rashers etc would you like? This is how i read it anyway. However I do think one sausage etc is a bit of a penny pinching approach. I accept that there is a cost to everything but at £165.48 a night i don't think it's unreasonable to expect a little bit more for your money. I asked what the soup of the day was and the waitress didn't know, it's "the soup of the day" there is only one. That should be known. We both enjoyed dinner so well done there & we couldn't fault the service from the gentleman who mostly served us whilst dining. BREAKFAST At breakfast I did in all fairness (no doubt as a result of the conversation the night before) receive more than one sausage etc, the sausages were not of a good quality at all and the best i could say about it is. Disappointing. It all felt like we couldn't be got rid of quick enough, I was just finishing my breakfast and the server was making a grab for my plate to clear it away while I still had a piece of toast in my hand. Overall not a bad stay, the food at dinner was good and we had a comfortable nights sleep but I personally don't think the price for the room is justified given the issues highlighted above. As a side note it also felt like the establishment couldn't wait to be rid of us as I received a text at 07:45 followed by an email at 07:49 to say sorry your leaving, to express check out click on the link. We hadn't even had breakfast yet !! We wouldn't choose to stay here again.
