One of the nicest country hotels I’ve been to in Hungary. The 1873 building was originally a school for wine-makers and was restored and turned in recent years into a very comfortable hotel by the Degenfelds, one of Hungary’s old aristocratic families. In addition to an attractive dining room downstairs, there are comfortable sitting rooms for guests. Guest rooms are spacious with king-size beds and excellent bathrooms and look out on the park-like garden at the front of the building. There is a road and railway not far away but we weren’t disturbed by noise, even with the windows open. (There’s also air conditioning for warm weather). The internet worked well - the only niggle is why do some hotels like this one still bother with long, complicated wifi passwords? Easy on-site parking. The welcome, complimentary glass of wine on arrival was a nice touch. We had an excellent dinner on the peaceful, shaded terrace at the front of the building. We enjoyed the starter of gnocchi and prawns, mains of crispy duck, chicken breast, vegetables and salad, and a pudding of chocolate cake and fruit, all accompanied by Furmint from the Degenfeld winery and Hungarian cabernet sauvignon. An added attraction is the Maria Theresa chapel built in 1750 above the hotel, reached by about a 30 minutes walk through the estate vineyards, from which you’re rewarded with a great view of the surrounding country. The chapel is on the St Mary’s pilgrimage route from Mariazell in Austria to Transylvania. Another plus is an attractive in-ground swimming pool in the hotel garden, flanked by magnificent ancient trees. All staff were courteous, efficient and friendly.

“A nobel holiday feeling”

Stayed there for one night on our way from Debrecen to the tatra. We should have booked more as the hotel was peaceful and had a very nice service. Room was spacious, clean and well designed. Stayed there for one night on our way from Debrecen to the tatra. We should have booked more as the hotel was peaceful and had a very nice service. Room was spacious, clean and well designed. Airco was helping with the hot outside temperatures. The swimming pool where we were alone was also a perfect cool down during the day. The wine tasting is purely as tasting which is nice before buying them and really helpful. As biologist I hoped to get some more information about the field and crop but it was restricted to the cellar and some of the production facilities. Service was really friendly as I did a mistake with the booking and they helped me to figure out the details and some cashback. All in all would go there again.

“Perfect experience”

Very kindly stuff. Great location with amazing view around. Our VIP suite with balcony was fantastic. Good swimming pool. Great service. We were a bit disappointed with dinner which was included in half board. It was not a buffet as is customary in hotels with half board, these are choosing a dish … lisää

It was not a buffet as is customary in hotels with half board, these are choosing a dish from the menu, when for some of the dishes an additional fee had to be added.
