We travel a lot and have stayed in thousands of hotels. This has to be one of the most bizarre customer service issues we have experienced. We travel a lot and have stayed in thousands of hotels. This has to be one of the most bizarre customer service issues we have experienced. We were given the only room (18) that was behind the hotel and not a part of the main hotel. We ran out of toilet paper at midnight on our first night. We looked for the “extra roll” and found none. Additionally the toilet constantly ran and there was a mechanical noise that kept us awake. At 8:30 am I went to the front desk, explained the situation. and asked for toilet paper. I speak some Spanish and the reception spoke some English. He clearly understood my request. He informed me each room received one roll of toilet paper. When I inquired as to what a person does when they need another roll in the middle of the night I was informed to call reception. There are no phones in the room and for our room that would mean walking outside in the middle of the night. We went to breakfast and returned to our room…no toilet paper. We had to take toilet paper from the public rest room, as did another set of guests we traveled with. We checked again at noon and 2 p.m. and no toilet paper. The reception was indifferent to us. We contacted the tour agency that assisted with our trip. The hotel confirmed the toilet paper had not been provided and told her they had already offered to give us toilet paper and check the running toilet with the late afternoon cleaning. She explained this was to be remedied immediately, which then occurred. What hotel refuses to provide toilet paper for a 16 hour period of time? They did try to fix the running toilet three times but it was unsuccessful. When we left the toilet had been running for three hours. The breakfast room is small and there were not spaces for us to sit. Also no hot food at breakfast. It is mostly heavy carbs and sugary cereal. The location is perfect and there is beauty to this historic hotel, but I would look for a hotel that is geared toward customer service.
