The beautiful Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge is an amazing place to stay while visiting the Talkeetna area. There is a beautiful view of Denali with large viewing decks with scopes, seating and fire pits. Their lobby is huge with the tallest stone fireplace I've ever seen, floor to ceiling windows facing Denail and a range of seating options from cozy couches near the fireplace to wooden window front rocking chairs. The lodge is surrounded by woods and trails and such beautiful flowers. We luggage service to our rooms from the train. There is a convenient shuttle that takes you into Talkeetna for food, shopping, drinks, etc. All of which you can also find at the hotel. The rooms and beds were comfortable. The towels were so thick and soft, it made all of our other lodging stays look sub par. I wish we could've stayed for more than one night!

We were taking the train from Anchorage to Fairbanks and I wanted to stop along the way. We chose Talkeetna and Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge because of its views of Denali. The mountain is notorious for hiding behind clouds but we were blessed with 2 days of spectacular views. An added bonus is the Aurora Borealis made an appearance. Our room was warm and clean. We chose a Denali view room which gave us an uninterrupted view of the mountain. The fire in the lobby fireplace made the huge lobby quite cozy. Staff was helpful and welcoming. My only complaint was about the food. We were there right after they opened and before spring crowds, food options were limited. No lunch service. They do offer a shuttle into the small town of Talkeetna, but when we went to find a lunch place most of the places there were closed too. Breakfast at the hotel was a buffet and limited. Mainly eggs, yogurt, French toast, cottage cheese, canned peaches. It did not vary on the two mornings we were there. Not much for the price. Dinner was pricey but good. I would imagine it would be a perfect place to stay after they are fully staffed and their restaurant has breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I arrived to the hotel at about 11:30, but couldn't check into my room until 4:00. It would have been great customer care to have been offered a cup of coffee or a snack a… lisää

My third stay at Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge: I arrived to Talkeetna by Alaska Railroad, and was promptly met by the hotel shuttle. I arrived to the hotel at about 11:30, but couldn't check into my room until 4:00. It would have been great customer care to have been offered a cup of coffee or a snack as neither of the in-house restaurants were open until 4:00. My check-out day, I was required to be out of the room at 11:00, and yet my train would not arrive until 4:50, the hotel shuttle transporting me to the depot at 4:30. I sat in the lobby for over four hours with neither in-house restaurant open. No offer of coffee or a snack, yet again! The chairs in my east wing room were very uncomfortable, the front desk saying they couldn't get me one chair like is available in the west wing, nor could I move to a room in the west wing. I arrived on a Tuesday, checked out on the following Sunday, and the high noise level in the hallway lasted till late at night, and began again early in the morning. It might help to have the hotel post quiet times from 10:00 at night till 8:00 in the morning. A lot of the blame rests with unsupervisory parents! Other than that, the shuttle drivers were always on time, helpful, and friendly. The Aurora wake-up calls were very much appreciated. An improvement in customer care would put my rating at SUPERB!

“Great views and solid amenities”

Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge has a lot going for it. The views are beautiful (Denali on a clear day), and the large decks make the most of the scenery. Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge has a lot going for it. The views are beautiful (Denali on a clear day), and the large decks make the most of the scenery. Rooms are comfortable and well-kept, and the property includes multiple dining options, including a more refined restaurant that makes for a nice evening. That said, the lodge can feel overrun at times with cruise ship visitors who seem to be in limbo, waiting for the next part of their journey. This often makes the lobby and common areas crowded and less relaxing. Still, when you look around at the alternatives, this is likely the best place to stay in the Talkeetna area. If you want great views, solid amenities, and a comfortable base around town, the lodge delivers.
