I spent the night at The Empress, the first night under new ownership. James and Ben provided a very welcoming experience. I stayed in my favorite room, The Petit Jean, and experienced an awesome stay there. Breakfast was amazing consisting of a made-to=order omelet, French toast, and fruit. I have always loved The Empress and looking forward to future stays there. Thank you, James and Ben!

Left of the governors mansion and a couple miles from Sonny Williams, our new favorite steak restaurant.

If you love Victorians, this is THE place! Soaring ceilings, original woodwork, big fireplaces, stained glass, a wrap around porch...all lovingly restored and furnished with period pieces. It's on a quiet side street-very little traffic and quiet neighbors. Antonio is a great host. Our room, the Petit Jean, was gorgeous, spacious, and well appointed. The only negative was the sound of distant passing trains blowing their horns several times over the course of the night-no fault of the Empress, of course. We'd stay here again if we return to Little Rock.

We stayed at this inn for four nights during our trip and found it to be absolutely beautiful. The property is exceptionally well kept, with stunning Victorian furnishings that give it so much character and charm. The environment is peaceful and inviting, with many lovely places to sit and relax both indoors and outside. The proprietor, James, was especially wonderful—kind, welcoming, and genuinely helpful throughout our stay. His warmth added greatly to the overall experience and we loved his dog Bernard! The only downside was the lack of amenities and services. While there was a coffee maker in the room and tea available in the hallway, that was the extent of what was offered. During our four-night stay, there was no housekeeping service at all: no garbage removal, no refilling of water bottles, no additional coffee pods, and no bed making. We ended up disposing of our own trash at the end of our stay. We were aware that breakfast was not included, but for such a beautiful—and not inexpensive—inn, we expected a bit more. Even small touches, such as a simple continental breakfast, pastries in the morning, or a glass of wine in the afternoon, would have made a big difference and felt more in line with the setting and price point. Overall, we did have a lovely stay and would recommend the inn for its beauty, ambiance, and gracious host. That said, the experience would be significantly improved if the inn “upped its game” when it comes to basic amenities and guest services.
