“Great Hotel to stay in while in town”

Stayed here for 2 weeks while in town for work at a local Fire Station.The staff were all awesome and super friendly! Stayed here for 2 weeks while in town for work at a local Fire Station.The staff were all awesome and super friendly! I needed to extend my room 2x due to job delays and the manager was able to accommodate me and I greatly appreciated that! Hotel is clean, as well as my room was too. Simple little things that are free daily like bottle water, says a lot about their genuine care for the guests. Would definitely recommend staying here if in town.

We enjoyed our stay at this clean and comfortable HIE offering a choice of foam or feather bed pillows with a great complimentary hot breakfast and an indoor swimming pool for kids. The pet-friendly water bowls welcome you and your four-legged companions into the lobby where check-in is accompanied by complimentary cookies and water. The Route 211 expansion construction out front is an inconvenience when trying to turn left exiting the hotel. My biggest negative is the road noise at night that affected our room fronting the highway; perhaps even-numbered rooms facing the rear of the hotel are quieter. I chose to run the noisy A/C to drown out the nighttime traffic passing by. The single elevator is truly inadequate for a property of this size; be prepared to share it with housekeeping in the morning. The bathroom sink basin is small and although the whirlpool tub was an impressive feature in our suite, seniors may not appreciate having to make the high step-over to enter the tub/shower. I can’t understand why they provide a scrub sponge and dishwashing liquid when there are no plates, glasses or silverware in the cabinets or drawers; what am I supposed to wash? They could apply the savings from eliminating those items to providing higher-quality tissues and toilet paper. Finally, has anybody ever stayed at a HIE where the pancake machine works properly or isn’t the source of some breakfast drama to start your day? Would like to see the staff be friendlier.

The staff at the hotel was great. They worked hard to address the concerns that we had during our visit. This includes the person who was working the front desk on Tuesday 5/19 who helped us get a room that had a sink and a full size refrigerator. Both people who were working at the front desk when we arrived on Friday 5/22 did the best they could with the air conditioner leak, we experienced in our room by providing us with towels to place down on the wet carpet in our room. The elderly gentleman who worked breakfast on Sunday 5/24 went the extra mile to make additional oatmeal when that ran out. Finally, the housekeeping staff was great each morning helping us out with towels and other things that we needed. We do like the location of this hotel as well because of its close location to the road that goes directly to the Oak Island Beach. While the staff at this hotel gets a "10" rating for their effort, it's hard to overstate the poor condition of this facility. We've stayed at this location many times in the past and things have seriously deteriorated since then. The air conditioning unit in our room leaked condensate onto the rug in our room the entire time we were there. This required continuously putting towels down on the floor. We were told that the condensate drain lines do not drain the condensate from the unit fast enough and that's what causes the floor to be wet. Our room was also supposed to have a dishwasher, but the space for the unit was missing leaving an unsightly, ugly hole. The drain for the sink in our room was not the correct one so we couldn't fill the sink with water. The soap dispenser in the bathroom was not attached solidly and started sliding down the wall just by pushing on it to dispense the soap. The fixture to turn on the shower, was substandard and seemed like it was going to break. The breakfast staff was great but they work under challenging conditions. On Saturday 5/23 there was a wait of almost 20 minutes because there weren't any scrambled eggs and many of us were standing by empty heating trays waiting. Running out of scrambled eggs might not be a problem if you didn't load of your omelets with onions and peppers that many of us don't want to eat. On Sunday 5/24, the pancake machine was broken, there weren't any bagels, and we were told at around 9AM that it was too late until the closing of breakfast to make any more oatmeal. This combination of shortages doesn't leave much else to eat. Separately, there seems to be some very serious leaks in the building that need immediate correction. For 3 straight mornings, we ate our lunch right next to a large bucket that was there every day to catch water leaking from the ceiling. From where we sat each day, we could see a serious leak in the ceiling above the pool with leaks and plaster hanging in many sections.
