“Beautiful setting, delicious meal”

Wonderful dinner on the balcony of a genuine historic Victorian “gingerbread” house overlooking a beautiful harbor. The food was delicious and the menu had both standard fare and more interesting entrees. Great for very fresh fish. Staff was friendly, service was excellent. Highly recommend.

So, let me just say that the hotel, and Shelter island in general is really lovely. The outdoor spaces were well thought out, we didn’t eat at the restaurant, (not enough options for two vegetarians, but. I realize that’s a ‘me’ problem) but we had drinks on the patio and that was nice. I thought it was weird that I couldn’t put the drinks on the room, but whatever. The big problem was coffee. There’s no coffee in the room, there’s no coffee in the lobby, you get a coupon for a free coffee, but not from the coffee shop in the hotel….You have to leave the hotel and go next door to get your coffee! That’s a lot to wrap your head around before you’ve had coffee. This is not a budget hotel, and they do have a kitchen (and a coffee shop) I don’t see what the big deal is about putting some coffee in the lobby. Anyway I never quite figured it out, I did not ever get to whatever adjacent establishment accepted my coupons. Also, they had the ac set at 68 degrees on a chilly night, we couldn’t warm up the room at all (there was no heat and the woman from the desk was not able to turn the ac of) so we took hot showers and that set off the fire alarm. The fire department came with an armed guard, to check the room That was a total drag too.

The Chequit is a nicely renovated hotel right near the north ferry on Shelter Island, making it an easy spot to stay. The Chequit is a nicely renovated hotel right near the north ferry on Shelter Island, making it an easy spot to stay. While the rooms are nice, many of the property’s other services were not available during our time there- the cafe is only open on certain days of the week, for instance, and their restaurant is closed for lunch. Additionally, you have to really dig through their website to learn that Tuesday nights become DJ night, making it impossible for any light sleepers to get a good night’s rest until the set ends. If their website - or their staff - had warned us, we could have either planned around it or changed our stay. To be honest, it’s pretty disappointing and I would not recommend this hotel to others unless they want that kind of IG vibe.

“Nice setting but service and food so so.”

Patio is nice once dark with all the lights. We ordered muscles which were pretty good but they took like 35 minutes to arrive. They apologized heavily so it was obvious they forgot to place order. I had the Wahoo special. What a mistake. Totally dry, hard to get down. My wife had scallops wh… lisää

Patio is nice once dark with all the lights. We ordered muscles which were pretty good but they took like 35 minutes to arrive. They apologized heavily so it was obvious they forgot to place order. I had the Wahoo special. What a mistake. Totally dry, hard to get down. My wife had scallops which were OK the accompaniments were good. When it was time to go and the check came the waitress made up wait again like 20 minutes after I put my card down. I had to take my check to the front and tell them I could not wait any longer. Service not the greatest.
