This hotel exceeded my expectations. A mid-century modern motel coverted from a Travelodge. It still looks like a Travelodge but with a funky vibe. The bed was super comfortable and the shower was better than most hotels I've stayed in -- the dial to turn it on is located on the side of the stall -- genius! I received a goody bag upon arrival with some essentials and a local snack. Continental breakfast every morning sustained me until indulging on any of the delicious local restaurants in town. I also enjoyed using the complimentary bicycle that comes with a helmet and a lock. The hotel is on the edge of downtown by two blocks so the bike was useful to get to the opposite end; otherwise, just a twenty minute walk to the zoo and merely 7 to get to the heart of the city. The good news is, it's closest to the Balloon Festival and you can see them from the hotel unobstructed -- the hotels downtown have taller buildings that block the colorful view. You don't stay here for luxury but for the customer service. Daniel and Tiffany were great! Always ready to chat and offer suggestions. Max was a good server and the dinner was unique and delicious. I sat on the patio which is in our own private courtyard. Another nice perk is Channel 39 has winning short movies. I loved Boise and felt very comfortable in the city and this hotel. It is the talk of the town. You don't want to miss out on this gem.

“Standout Boutique Hotel”

Sometimes a single member of staff can make a great stay exceptional. Here Theodora on the front desk did that - a true star, who really went the extra mile for us. Sometimes a single member of staff can make a great stay exceptional. Here Theodora on the front desk did that - a true star, who really went the extra mile for us. If only customer service was always as good. This boutique hotel is perfectly located in the buzzy Linen District near downtown Boise. The hotel has a carefully curated cool, vintage vibe; built around a communal patio area used for dining. Apparently it used to be a Travelodge - hard to believe of an establishment so stylish. The rooms are minimalist, comfortable and well-equipped. The included breakfast was freshly prepared and very tasty. The restaurant also offers evening dining, with a short but adventurous menu, prepared to a very high standard. The cocktails were also imaginative and very welcome. Room, food and cocktails were all very good value. We visited Boise on a cross country trip, heading to the coast. The city itself turned out to be an unexpected delight, and the Modern Hotel & Bar a real gem. I have no hesitation in recommending.

“Cool, laid back hotel/motel with great drinks/food and warm and friendly staff in a great downtown location”

Stayed for 2 nights while in Boise for a wedding. We had eaten at the bar years ago and enjoyed the vibe so thought we'd try out the hotel. The two women who greeted us at the reception at check in were amazing--warm and welcoming. It was a great start. My husband and I had a room with a door facing the parking lot and our son and his girlfriend had a room on the interior--both on the first floor. The rooms were spare but stylish and well designed with good use of all the space. We did not find street noise or other guest noise to be an issue at all. The housekeeping staff was prompt and left the room spotless. We asked for a fridge and a microwave when we made the reservation and those were waiting for us in our rooms. We had drinks and snacks at the bar both nights. Drinks were 20% off for hotel guests during happy hour (4:30-6:30). The cocktails were creative and tasty. The food was great too--we had the calamari, the kale caesar and the bread/olive/pickle plate. There is a complimentary breakfast that was solid as well. I enjoyed the frittatas and the yogurt with granola and fresh fruit and jam. The servers at the bar were also warm and friendly like the folks at the front desk. The location is great--it's downtown but a bit removed from the rowdy young people bar seen about a half mile away but still within walking distance of great shops. We tried various fried foods at Fanci Freeze and soft serve at Soft Landing and loved both places which were a short walking distance from the Modern. The neighborhood felt safe for us to walk around in even after dark. It's also right off the freeway so easy to hop on and off to get to other areas of Boise. And just a 10 minute drive from the airport. For anyone looking for a small hotel/motel with a funky downtown vibe at a reasonable price, I highly recommend staying at the Modern.

Such a great find! I LOVED this stay! So close to everything, small and friendly setting, staff were all so helpful and kind - we especially loved Theodora.
