The Black Hawk hotel was a beautiful and historic stay. The location is perfect, with so many restaurants, coffee shops, theater, and river all within walking distance. The hotel staff was friendly and accommodating. We traveled with our pup and loved how dog-friendly the hotel was. A bandana, dog treats, and poo-bags were waiting in our room upon check-in! So thoughtful and an extra touch. I did see a review, prior to my stay, that recommended bringing your own pillows, because the pillows were flat, not a lot of support. I am glad I heeded that advice, and would also recommend, that if you like extra support while sleeping. With that said, the bed itself was very comfortable. I would definitely stay here again.

Overall a disappointing experience. I'd been wanting to try this hotel since I've made trips to Cedar Falls for years. I don't think I'd stay again. I booked a room with a separate sitting room. This was not provided. I only found out they changed my room type when I got up to the room. No explanation or compensation for the downgrade were provided. Parking was annoying but not bad in mild weather. It would be a disaster in the snow. The location is great other than the parking situation. Room furnishings were worn but in passable condition. Beds were fine but pillows were flat and obviously old. No cleaning service was provided after my first night. This was either an oversight or a hotel policy, but this also was not explained at check-in. AC and heat were difficult to operate. The overall unit was filthy and had what appeared to be mold on it. The lobby bar is nice and has great staff. On my second night, a private event had booked the entire lobby. A sign on the main entrance told hotel guests to enter from a back alleyway entrance. Totally unacceptable and unwelcoming for guests who had paid to stay at the hotel and enjoy all its amenities. At checkout, I was asked if an email receipt was "okay." I prefer paper but didn't want to push it. I never received a finalized folio by email. At about $180 a night including taxes, this place is overpriced for what it offers. It does have some charm, but in most areas it just feels old and undermaintained. The customer service is disappointing and hotel policies are unfriendly towards the guests (downgrades, closed lobby entrance, no housekeeping). Next time for my downtown CF stay, I'll likely choose the larger chain option across the street. They have parking and will let you enter through their front door.

Sadly this beautiful structure is on the decline. No more convenient parking near the building, no more breakfast Café on site. The "free continental breakfast" consisted of a cinnamon roll and a pot of coffee. Literally nothing else. They didn't even have decent to go cups. Just Styrofoam cups tha… lisää

The "free continental breakfast" consisted of a cinnamon roll and a pot of coffee. Literally nothing else. They didn't even have decent to go cups. Just Styrofoam cups that you would have for a cold drink. And found three cigarette butts on the floor by the bed. Nice cleaning job! Very sad to see this historic building with such potential offer fewer and fewer amenities. Maybe someone will buy it and restore it to its former glory. To add insult to injury was scammed by the "Blackhawk Holding Co" by trying to locate this Blackhawk Hotel through a 3rd reservation party via Google search. Ended up having to cancel my credit card with no reservation to the actual hotel. Not their fault but beware!!
