This hotel is located next-door to a ghostly mall, mostly empty except for a Target store. There’s a vacant Sears with a gigantic parking lot. Nearby there are many other malls of various sizes on a busy commercial strip. Lots of vacancies there too. But this is a handy area to highways and a bridge across the Hudson. The town of Kingston has several good restaurants. It was a good base of operations for this region for a few days. Staff was great.

“Front Desk Perfection.”

This hotel was exactly what we needed at a difficult time for a two night stay. I want to especially highlight our experience with Mira at the Front Desk.I stopped in ahead of our expected check in time and she had a room ready for us - a one bedroom in quiet corner near the stairs and the door. … lisää

This hotel was exactly what we needed at a difficult time for a two night stay. I want to especially highlight our experience with Mira at the Front Desk.I stopped in ahead of our expected check in time and she had a room ready for us - a one bedroom in quiet corner near the stairs and the door. She did a perfect checkin. Greeting by name, thanking for loyalty, providing a lovely gift bag with a hand written note from her. Her review of the amenities, breakfast timing etc was terrific. She confirmed our late checkout and proactively redid our keys. We have almost 1800 Marriott nights and it is still a pleasure to have such a professional person at the Front desk. Our room was clean and everything worked. Location was convenient for the places we needed to be. Thank you MIra!

“Nice lodging, less than nice front desk staff”

We went for one night, and we enjoyed our stay. The accommodations were just what we needed, the location was good, and the complimentary breakfast was excellent (many options, pleasant staff). We went for one night, and we enjoyed our stay. The accommodations were just what we needed, the location was good, and the complimentary breakfast was excellent (many options, pleasant staff). The only thing that was disappointing was the front desk. We arrived right before check in (which is 4pm) and there was no one at the front desk. We waited 5 minutes while watching a basketball game. Finally I called the hotel and after 5 rings someone picked up. I explained we were waiting and they casually said, oh yeah, I will be there in a moment. Then someone came out and did not apologize and acted very indifferent. Barely got eye contact. Not a good first impression, luckily the staff at breakfast were very sweet and friendly.

The Residence Inn in Kingston, NY is in a transitioning area. Actually, it seems that all of Kingston, NY is transitioning. The hotel is fine -- the front desk and breakfast area staffs were nice. The pet fee is higher than other Marriott properties and I'm not sure why. Since there isn't much to do or see in Kingston, you might want to consider other cities for lodging.
