We stayed here while in Kalamazoo over the 4th of July holiday and really enjoyed our stay. The staff is friendly, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the pool area is nice. The coffee place downstairs was also a nice touch, with good drinks and staff. I wanted to take a moment and really throw some praise on the restaurant. I travel a lot for work, and many hotels have pretty decent food but nothing overly memorable—however, the chef here clearly takes pride in their work and the food was FANTASTIC. Prices were also very reasonable. The waitress and bartender were also attentive and friendly. Seriously, kudos for having wonderful people in the kitchen and front of restaurant.

My spouse and I had been planning a weekend in Kalamazoo, including time on campus at WMU, with another couple (friends of ours). I decided to stay at this hotel based on its good location not far from WMU's campus, its good reviews overall on TripAdvisor, and the fact that it has a hot tub in its indoor pool area. I had attended college at WMU many years ago and had been intrigued by this hotel for quite a while... including when it used to be a Holiday Inn years ago. I was glad I finally had the opportunity to spend a night here! (We all had two separate rooms between my spouse and me, and the other couple who are our friends.) Overall, this is a good property with a nice atmosphere. You can tell that the hotel is a bit dated (especially in the indoor pool area), but they've done a good job modernizing a lot of it... including the lobby area, rooms, and hallways. Our check-in process on the Saturday afternoon of our stay went pretty smoothly, and our room (#450) was clean and comfortable. No worries there. Plus, the noise level was fine and we got a pretty good night's sleep. The indoor pool and hot tub area are decent but, like I said above, rather dated. The four of us used the hot tub, but it wasn't that great. The water wasn't as hot as it should have been for a "hot" tub, and the water level in the hot tub was kind of low... so we didn't get the full experience with the hot tub that we would have liked. Also, the jets were sort of spraying cold water up in the water... so we decided not to have the jets on while we were sitting there. We were grateful to have a hot tub to use, but it just wasn't as nice as it could have been. One thing we really liked, though, was the bar area at the hotel. We had some drinks, and the bartender who take care of us was friendly and helpful... good service overall. For a Saturday night, the bar was very dead... but that's not necessarily a bad thing for a group of ours who just wanted a quiet evening to relax and enjoy some cocktails. I don't know what kind of breakfast this hotel has to offer. We ended up getting breakfast from one of the good restaurants nearby. Overall, I liked the hotel. Good value for the most part. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to finally experience it for the first time. I would consider staying here again in the future if I need lodging on this side of Kalamazoo.
