We were unable to get accommodations inside Glacier National Park, so we chose LOGE Glacier for its location, which is equidistant to the park's east and west entrances. Our room was in the Schoolhouse section of the property, so we had a short walk to the main inn for meals and other amenities. It wasn't onerous; in fact it was actually quite nice, entailing a walk directly over the railroad track and with a beautiful view of the inn and the mountains. Our Schoolhouse room had a minimalist design, but everything we needed was there, including a lovely patio. Two minor complaints are that the Schoolhouse rooms have shelves, but no drawers, for storing your clothing, and it would have been nice to have a broom/dust pan to attend to dirt we tracked in from our hikes. As with most lodging these days, there was no daily housekeeping. The entire property is next to a BNSF railroad track/maintenance yard and also traveled by AmTrak trains twice daily. In general, the trains did not blow their whistles, so you mainly just hear the trains going by at various times throughout the day and night. We did not mind this, and in fact, found it to be one of the charming aspects of the property. You will want to judge that factor for yourself. In any case, LOGE provided our room with a white-noise machine, and I assume this is an amenity for all rooms. LOGE Glacier's café was quite a surprise, as we didn't expect much regarding meals. The food was delightful. The menu is small, but they prepare each dish with care, and everything we ordered was delicious. And it wasn't just meat and potatoes. We ordered a coconut-curry rice bowl that was one of the best I've ever had. Our servers were tip top. In summation, we highly recommend this property as a great base when you decide to visit GNP, which is truly one of our nation's jewels.

THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE RESTRAUNT INSIDE THE LODGE We stopped for lunch. We were greeted and seated quickly and our server was right there to take our drink order. She returned with the drinks and explained a couple items on the menu to us. My wife had the BLT and it was huge! Loaded with bacon, so much so that she could not eat it all. I had the classic cheese burger, it was very good as well. Tea is $4.00 which seems quite steep but it was good ice tea. Flies were constantly interrupted our dining experience though.

“Isolated but beautiful”

When I booked the Loge (formally known as the Izaak Walton Hotel), I expected rustic and that's what we got. The building built in the 30's had much old time charm. When I booked the Loge (formally known as the Izaak Walton Hotel), I expected rustic and that's what we got. The building built in the 30's had much old time charm. The room was very small but clean and comfortable. I wish it had a TV, but I guess that just added to the old time feel. The thing I most didn't like was it's location. There are no other stores or restaurants within thirty miles. Lunch and dinner had the exact same limited menu so if you're staying for more than a couple of days it gets old fast. There's a $25 per day "resort fee" that didn't seem to cover anything. There were no special activities while we there for four nights in September. Supposedly there is gear you can borrow but they never say exactly what. Maybe if they supplied some kind of welcome packet telling everything the hotel has to offer for the guests I'd feel better about the fee. Although isolated, the hotel is in a beautiful location with hiking trails behind it. The hiking trails were another thing they could have stressed because we pretty much found it on our own.
