My friends and I just spent a girls' weekend at The Hotel Portsmouth and the quaint, cozy, quirky, eclectic hotel was Absolutely Wonderful! The rooms were spacious and well appointed for seven of the eight of us. (The eighth room on the third floor had a slanted attic ceiling, so was smaller and darker than the others, with no counter space in the tiny bathroom). All of the beds were so comfortable and we all slept well all weekend. The staff was friendly and helpful and the hotel has many private areas for groups to gather together, both inside and outside. The kitchen is well stocked with an extensive continental breakfast in the morning and coffee, tea, water, soda water all day. And you just can't beat the location, situated within walking distance of everything in downtown Portsmouth. The Hotel Portsmouth was the Perfect place to stay and we all Loved every minute of our weekend in Portsmouth!

Parking was always easy, we never had a problem finding a spot and we liked the location - just slightly removed from the very centre of things but an easy walk. The style and feel of the hotel is lovely - oozing with character. Parking was always easy, we never had a problem finding a spot and we liked the location - just slightly removed from the very centre of things but an easy walk. Our attic room was fine (we're both fairly short) but not ideal if you're much taller. I appreciate you can't do much with an historic building but the bathroom was tiny. No counter space for toiletries so we ended up putting them on the floor. Again, since it's an historic building the floors and stairs were creaky in places and not much to insulate from neighbours' slamming doors at night. The bed was super-comfy and the bedlinen was so soft - probably the best hotel sheets I've ever stayed in! We really enjoyed the pool table in the basement and typically had it to ourselves, which was great! The last highlight was the breakfast - everything you could possibly want; cereal, overnight oats, coffee, juice, yoghurts, cold cuts, eggs, fruit, cake & pastries. Really well replenished and a great start to the day. We also liked the drinking water on tap in the kitchen area, which we could help ourselves too. There were just two very minor points. We booked with Mr and Mrs Smith - one of the benefits being complimentary local chocolate in our room on arrival. This never materialised. The other thing being there is an envelope in the room for tipping the housekeeping staff but we didn't receive any housekeeping during our 2-night stay. Not a big deal as we were only there a short while and maybe just an oversight from the team. Our stay was perfectly nice but we just didn't feel 'Wowed'. (If you're staying at The Hotel Portsmouth, definitely book a table at Moxy - you won't be disappointed. The food was sensational.)
