Booked a one-night stay at this wonderful hotel, which is centrally located right across the street from the beach and Convention Hall and within a few blocks of the Washington Street Mall. It's right in the heart of everything. What I appreciated most (aside from its location): a spotless room, free beach tag and continental breakfast, and excellent service. Very friendly and accommodating. I arrived early and Alex kindly held my bags so I could hit the beach right away. Thanks again, Alex!

“Easy peasy livin in beautiful Cape May”

The location of Avondale by the Sea is unsurpassed: across the street from the beach, in the heart of the town, with rental bicycles, coffee shops and Washington Street pedestrian mall within a block or two. My husband & I had visited Cape May in October before because in shoulder season the prices drop, but we'd never stayed at Avondale because we felt it was probably out of our budget. This year we got lucky and now we will never stay anywhere else in Cape May! Our son, his wife and our 7-year old granddaughter had never been to Cape May. Our granddaughter had never seen the great, wide ocean so I said to my husband: We've got to fix that! So when 2nd grade had a Friday inservice we headed for a 3-day visit. We got two nearby rooms (ground floor, as my daughter-in-law has mobility issues) and set out to see the "biggest sandbox in the world"! Granddaughter loved it! Jersey shore enthusiasts KNOW the ocean water temperature gets into the 70s by Labor Day, and September and October are the BEST times to go jump some waves. The hotel was mid-century modern, but not kitchy like Wildwood. (I like the Victorian theme of Cape May, but, I feel it's not ideal for a 7-year-old.) The floors were tile and there was no smoking on the property. The rooms smelled great and the beds were very comfy. We had a mini-fridge and a small sofa and a seperate bedroom and it really seemed spacious. The staff was so gracious. Morning coffee was served adjacent to the office and they had a complementary selection of bagels, muffins, cereals, instant oatmeal, bananas, apples, for a light breakfast. Management kibitzed with the lodgers coming in, and folks got chatty and friendly with one another. This is a lovely place to visit. Oh, and the ample parking... did I mention the ample parking? If you wished to see the sun sink into the ocean at Sunset Beach, you can use your car. If you'd like to visit the Cape May County Zoo, you can take your car. If you'd like to go to the Lobster House and watch the fishing boats dock, you can take your car. Honestly, I've been in fancy-schmancy places where the cars are parked for you and packed bumper to bumper in an off-site lot. Not here. Wonderful! THIS is vacation. Easy peasy livin' for a few days in a beautiful town that time forgot. Highly, highly recommend!

“Wonderful location!”

This was our 3rd stay at the Avondale. We had a lovely time. They get high marks for the cleanliness of the property. The room is mopped daily. We enjoy the included breakfast, it helps with kids. This was our 3rd stay at the Avondale. We had a lovely time. They get high marks for the cleanliness of the property. The room is mopped daily. We enjoy the included breakfast, it helps with kids. The donuts are delicious. The pool is clean and we appreciate the rules as it’s less rowdy. The front desk staff is friendly. The best is the location. Close to the beach, the mall and tons of amenities. What can be improved are the mattresses. They are well loved and way too soft. They need to be replaced. I’m still nursing a sore back from my stay. Another improvement would be the bathrooms. They haven’t been updated at all. It’s the old tubs and tile. What is really hard are the low toilets. My parents can no longer stay there with their knees as the toilets are so low. Also note there is no elevator which can pose a problem as well. Parking can be tricky as well. We share the pool with the Inn of CM and I noticed they haven’t chairs and umbrellas included in their stay. I would love this too.
