The staff were so lovely and welcoming, which made the experience even better. We truly enjoyed every meal at the hotel restaurant. The food was delicious and surprisingly affordable, making dining there a highlight of our stay. The overall atmosphere of the hotel was relaxed and inviting, and we slept amazingly well each night. From the exceptional service to the fantastic vibe, everything exceeded our expectations. If you’re visiting Charlotte, the Mecklen Hotel is an absolute must!

“Below the standards of a Marriott property”

I've been a Marriott Rewards member for a long time and I'm not sure this hotel should be in their portfolio. I was supposed to stay at the Marriott up the street, but they lost power and moved me to this hotel. The first thing that struck me was the smell in the hotel - maybe I just stayed on the wrong day, but it was very musty, like you would find at an older hotel near the beach where it is humid and people walk around in wet bathing suits. I think it's the carpets. In the morning, the cleaning staff (or someone) sprayed some very sweet smelling fragrance on our floor and it was hanging in the air, you could see it up by the lights. It was really strong by the elevators and I had to cover my nose and mouth. Next, my room also had a body odor-like smell, especially the bathroom, and there was a clump of hair in the shower. The pillows were really hard - they were all the same, no choice of "fluff." The coffee machine did not produce hot water - it was tepid, so the coffee service was not useful. The restaurant is overpriced for what you get and I wasn't feeling any ambiance in the lobby or dining area. Usually I liked to work down there in the evening, like at a Courtyard, but it didn't have that vibe. So I didn't sleep well on the night before an important business meeting. I'm sorry to complain so much, which I rarely do (I spent a career in the military so my expectations are already low), but I wasn't impressed with this property at all and will not return.
