I stayed here for business and when I'm in town for an extended length of time I like to choose Residence Inns because I like to have the space and have the option of making my own meals. Which by the look of the breakfast, I'd advise making your own. BUT that's just my opinion. It started off fine. The girl who checked me in was super nice and cheery. That's a great way to start a stay off. How you feel about a place often starts with check in and this one was a good one. So kudos to her. I wish I could remember her name. And honestly one of the issues I had was that not all the front desk people were nice. They either seemed bitter to be there or they were sarcastic thinking they were funny but they weren't. Just not the best front desk personnel I have ever encountered. to make this easier I'm just going to do the bad and the good. I'm sorry to do bad first but I write long and no one will read it all. I mentioned the front desk so that's out of the way. I felt like the whole property is just worn out. The hallways are old, the elevators are banged up, etc. It's needs a refresh and feel like they aren't doing it because it's between stadiums and people will stay there either way. As I was coming from my room to go out, I felt like the lobby area or the lounge area smelled and felt this way every time I walked through it. It was like cleaner mixed with lavender or some kind of fragrance that just made it unappealing. The breakfast-it's basic and as usual there is barely anything healthy which is why I like to go to the market to get my own food for the room. It's a typical Residence Inn breakfast but wish it could be better. Everyone is entitled to their opinions but just not for me. HERE IS THE BIGGEST RED FLAG AND ISSUE I HAD. SAFETY!!!! I witnessed something that should never happen. And I feel bad saying this but a homeless man came to use the free breakfast. He seemed a little off and the staff tried to get him to go away. Well instead of leaving the property he went into the elevator. They did have to call the police and because I was leaving for work I don't know what happened. The fact that he could go and use an elevator is frightening. With that at this hotel, YOU DO NOT NEED TO USE A KEYCARD TO OPERATE THE ELEVATOR and this is a HUGE problem. You're a hotel in the city and anyone can walk in and go up to the room floors. The fact that the property is in the city should automatically mean a keycard should be needed. I'm shocked it's not. It's not an unsafe area but you are by stadiums and should have extra precautions to make customers feel safe. I hope they see this and change things soon. Now for the good. I thought the room was fine. It's your basic older looking Residence Inn rooms. Everything seemed fine and thankfully quiet during the time I stayed there. The self parking is easy since it's connected to the hotel. I do wish they distributed tags for the car that says you're a guest at the hotel since they have dedicated hotel parking spaces and if it fills up for a game some random person can just park in those dedicated spaces. it is a big lot and never had a problem but can imagine that during a Panthers game it's packed. I guess those are really the only highlights I have along with the friendly front desk person who checked me in. Honestly, unless you're going to a Panthers or Knights game, I would skip this hotel. It's great walking distance to the stadiums but there is nothing else to walk to that's right out the door. You have to walk a few blocks to where a concentration of restaurants and bars are. Since I tend to go into neighborhoods to eat, this wasn't quite an issue. Maybe with some improvements it can be a really great property but until than, it's a skip for me.
