“A unique but subpar experience”

The Big Texan motel was adequate, but that’s about where the praise stops. The room was pretty rough around the edges, as was the hotel as a whole. The Big Texan motel was adequate, but that’s about where the praise stops. The room was pretty rough around the edges, as was the hotel as a whole. The room we rented was an AirBnB room which was an odd set up. I suspect it was a way for the motel to get rooms refreshed without paying a ton. Our room was western themed, but that’s essentially meant that meant unfinished plywood on most of the walls, a corrugated steel feature wall, and saloon doors at the entrance to the bathroom. The floors were old tile and there was a massive gap under the exterior door; enough so that we put a towel against it to prevent pests from coming in. The room felt very tired with the fixtures being worn and dated. It also felt as though much of the room was updated on the cheap, so it felt flimsy. Another unique feature was the copious signatures on the back of the exterior door. It’s a neat idea to allow guests to memorialize their visit in such a way, but it also meant the door was essentially covered in graffiti. The benefit to staying at this hotel is its proximity to the Big Texan Steak Ranch (definitely worth a visit). The room had a keypad entry which we received the code to in advance. Because of this I can’t say anything about the service as we didn’t experience it. I will note a really neat feature is the Horse Hotel connected to the motel, allowing people traveling with horses to have room and board for them as well.
