I spent one night at the Spark in Dumas. It exceeded my expectations, given that its rates are so much lower than the nearby Hampton Inn. The interior is fresh and clean. It doesn't look or feel like a remodeled older hotel (which it is). The room had the amenities I expected, plus a bonus small refrigerator. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. I just needed a good night's rest on a road trip - and I got it. Spark is an economy hotel brand - "premium economy" but still, economy. Managing expectations is key to a good experience. I checked this Spark hotel's website when I made the reservation, so I knew they don't have in-room coffeemakers, microwaves, or fridges. I also knew that the breakfast offerings are of the "continental" type (cold cereal, milk, yogurt, toast, pastry, fruit). The hotel does have a guest laundry and ice machines. The bed was comfortable, the shower was fine, and there were excellent charging stations for my electronics on each nightstand and on the desk. They each featured a wireless charging pad for my phone. Sweet! My room was on the second floor, at the back - away from the highway out front. I didn't notice any distracting noise there. There's a big green park-like space next to the hotel which is great for exercising your dogs. The only disappointment was the coffee. Not tasty. I hope the Spark brand will improve their coffee game.
