I stayed overnight at the Holiday Inn Express in Palestine, Texas.I would give this a 4 out of 5. I waited in the lobby for at least 5 minutes before the desk clerk came from the back room. I stayed overnight at the Holiday Inn Express in Palestine, Texas.I would give this a 4 out of 5. I waited in the lobby for at least 5 minutes before the desk clerk came from the back room. The rooms are clean. The toilet seat in my room needed repair since it was coming off. The breakfast was a typical hotel free breakfast . Cheap, microwaved, likely previously frozen. I booked my reservation through Expedia which apparently may be my mistake. Because of booking through a site different than the hotel’s site, the desk clerk would not allow me to check in 2 hours early. She said that since I had not booked through the hotel site there would be a $50 up charge for that. If I had booked through the hotel, I would have been allowed to check in early at no charge. The price for the room was a bit steep so I’m sure she could have accommodated an early check in. She had rooms available but refused to check me in a little early without paying the increase. For someone like me that requires keeping meds cold, this can present a problem especially on hot days. So buyer, beware. This place is all about charging when and where they can.

“Perfectly run hotel”

Great breakfast, helpful staff, comfortable beds, hot water in the shower, no complaints! The manager was especially helpful when my reservation thru Hotels.com was lost, and managed to get me a room in this fully-booked hotel. All local hotels were full because of a music festival.

“Stay over for the train depot tours”

It’s convenient to the Palestine Railroad Depot/Polar Express. One plus that is not mentioned in the property description, there is a tram style bus that has a daily shuttle for departures/returns of the train. It’s convenient to the Palestine Railroad Depot/Polar Express. One plus that is not mentioned in the property description, there is a tram style bus that has a daily shuttle for departures/returns of the train. The staff in all departments seemed friendly and available. The breakfast was excellent and they use the automatic pancake maker. Beds were good and the rooms were clean. The minuses: carpet and furniture were very dated. There obvious holes and damaged walls with amateurish repairs. Smoking is not allowed in the pool area. Ice is only available on the first floor. It took 5 days before the damage/incidental surcharge was credited back to my card.
