“Total serenity on Serenity Island”

I absolutely LOVED my 5 nights on Serenity Island. I was slightly cautious going into it as I had read some mixed reviews, but after my time there I'm now furious that anyone would put any doubts in my mind. They never claim to be anything more than a 3.5 star hotel, so you just have to set your expectations going into it. Was everything completely smooth & pristine the whole time there? No! But you're on Fiji time now baby, so what's the rush? I was shocked by how good the rooms were - aircon worked great, wifi worked perfectly, bed was super comfy. Bathrooms are basic but get the job done! Literally 15 steps from your balcony into the ocean, nothing beats that. Any small hiccups we encountered (leaky fridge, nail sticking out on balcony etc) were quickly attended to by staff. And my god, the staff. I think about my cleaning lady still now months later, I miss her!! The staff were SO kind and attentive, and genuinely make Serenity Island what it is. The breakfast buffet each morning was perfect, again sometimes food was running out, but a quick, kind word to the staff and they were on to making more, you can't just expect things to happen for you. I brought some snacks with me to keep in my bar fridge in my room for lunches, so that I only had to cover the cost of dinner. Was relatively pricey for the quality of food, but of course you can expect ANY hotel on a remote island to be able to charge what they want for food, that's how life works. Service was a little slow depending on how many guests there were, but again, what are you in a rush for? Bring a book and kick back while you wait. The gym was great quality, newly renovated and had pumping aircon and cold, filtered water on tap. Had a great massage too, although apparently my friend got hers soundtracked with some thumping hip-hop beats which made us laugh. Again, if you don't ask you don't receive, I'm sure they would have changed it if she'd said anything. The peace and quiet of the island was just next level. Some days I joined in on every free activity I could and would be chatting with staff & other guests, and then other days I completely unplugged and just stayed in my balcony/hammock reading and going in for swims. You can curate your own experience. Loved it!!!

“Amazing serenity resort time”

We truly enjoy out stay at this resort stuff was organised hard working friendly and welcoming . Very nice manager that accommodates our needs . We fall in love with all the energy of singing every evening . We took massages that were on the point with pressure and very relaxing with coconut oil … lisää

“Paradise just a boat ride away.”

From the wonderful staff, the relaxing beach ebbing at our doorstep, swimming, activities or just relaxing by the pool it was paradise. Every staff member was so accomodating and always smiling. Best holiday ever!

“Not so go to Choice”

Location and rooms were okay however if you can improve on your breakfast. Maybe add omlette. “Beautiful location but work to be done.”

The island is beautiful, what a perfect location. Snorkelling was amazing. Wifi was very good considering we were on a small island. Some of the staff were lovely and friendly. We did a snorkelling trip and a fishing trip which were great. The turtle feeding was interesting too. And now, why not 5 stars... Our room was good (clean and comfortable) but needed a little work, the bathroom tap was hanging off and there was a hole in the door that let water in when it rained heavily - we had to use all our towels to plug the gap. While the island was amazing, there was rubbish everywhere, this kind of took away from the serenity of the location. It would only take a staff member a few hours to go around and clean it up but nobody seemed to care. Even one of the other guests went around with a bag and picked up some trash. Some of the areas were very tired and in need of renovation e.g. the pool deck. The bathrooms near the pool were disgusting, locks were broken on doors, one toilet flooded from the bottom when the flush was pulled. We were offered the meal plan prior to arrival but decided not to do it due to the cost and we are not huge eaters. This was the best decision as it turns out that meal plan packages were quite restrictive in choices. The menu was okay but after 10 nights we were a bit bored with the selections. There were specials on a few nights but not often enough. By the end of the trip we spent half of what we would've spent had we bought the meal plan - that was with dinner, drinks, some lunches, a massage and the occasional shop purchase. The food was inconsistent, sometimes great but mostly average. Some things came out cold (mash), some dishes arrived with the wrong sides (mash instead of cous cous). We ended up eating from the kids menu some nights which was really good. Breakfast was good with a reasonable selection. The biggest downside for us was the breakfast and dinner service. I understand Fiji time but this was sometimes beyond a joke. We would wait for 15-20 minutes at the table, some staff would see you but do nothing, sometimes even sitting on their phones at the counter. At breakfast we gave up on table service and went up to the counter to order as we were basically ignored. You could hear the kitchen ringing the bell for food that was ready but the waiting staff wouldn't move. Lots of work avoidance going on. They also were consistently low on stock. Things were not available on the already sparse menu. Drinks were always unavailable - not sure if they were out of stock or if they simply couldn't be bothered to fetch some from the store? I understand that it is a remote island but there were at least 3 boats a day to the mainland. We also seen a staff member drinking what looked like wine behind the bar. I don't know what changed on Thursday (22nd January) but staff that had previously been rude and inattentive were suddenly making themselves look very busy and helpful. Maybe a different manager arrived?? The service did improve slightly here. I would have mentioned some of the above to the staff but I honestly don't think that they cared. The place will need a major upgrade before I would go back.
