“Beautiful Stay! Highly recommend!”

We stayed with Mutsuo for 2 nights as a last minute decision and absolutely loved it! We stayed with Mutsuo for 2 nights as a last minute decision and absolutely loved it! From the luxury styled rooms, spa bath, spa pool, amenities & little goodies left for us we can not fault this place. Everything is done to perfection with an amazing gourmet breakfast both continental and full cooked included it’s a dream. Mutsuo makes you feel at home and this little sanctuary is well worth the visit! We will be back!

Puketotara Lodge is well situated off SH10. Spacious, well-appointed rooms have private entrance from parking area. Puketotara Lodge is well situated off SH10. Spacious, well-appointed rooms have private entrance from parking area. Each room has windows and sliding glass doors with views across the garden and orchard to the rolling hills across the small Puketotara River. Room felt like staying in a cottage overlooking a vineyard. Even better ... Proprietor Mutsuo is gracious and a masterful chef. The presentation of cut fruit when I entered the dining area followed by the manner in which he prepared and plated a vegetable and herb omelette with ingredients raised on the property gave away that he trained as a chef. -- If travelling with that special someone, the 3-course Chef's selection dinner on the intimate patio would be romantic experience. This would also be a good location for a leadership team offsite meeting. Everyone will feel transported to an idyllic spot away from the rest of the world. It is a place where people can "focus", yet also have the space to ponder own thoughts. Interestingly, there is a landing strip and 9-hole golf course on the property.

Was expecting more. The location was stunning and the hosts very friendly. But the place needs an upgrade. The rooms have too much clutter, bathrooms are old and the entry for the king rooms are through the bathroom which we thought odd. Was expecting more. The location was stunning and the hosts very friendly. But the place needs an upgrade. The rooms have too much clutter, bathrooms are old and the entry for the king rooms are through the bathroom which we thought odd. Bathrooms not private as there were only blinds infront of the windows at the bath/shower, but it didn’t cover the windows completely which made me feel uncomfortable. The hosts however were great and the breakfasts satisfying.
