We stayed in this hotel in June and were really pleased with our choice. It was excellent value for money - friendly staff and a pleasant room in a great location (all major attractions in walking distance and a sunny courtyard outside where we could sit). We were able to park easily round the corner and there was an adjoining restaurant as well as places nearby to eat.

“Nice visit in the middle of winter”

I hope to provide a unique perspective from the other reviews as I did the Trans Siberian during winter, when it was down to -32 degrees outside. Pros 1. Menshikov is close to the centre. In -34 you only last around 20 minutes outside tops. The location was very helpful for exploring and resting… lisää

I hope to provide a unique perspective from the other reviews as I did the Trans Siberian during winter, when it was down to -32 degrees outside. Pros 1. Menshikov is close to the centre. In -34 you only last around 20 minutes outside tops. The location was very helpful for exploring and resting, with a nearby Sberbank for foreign exchange, the museum of Ulan Ude History very close aa well as groceries. The Lenin Head and Buzza cafes are no more than 10 minutes away on foot. The bookstore across the road is excellent for gifts and souvenirs. 2. There is an onsite restaurant. If you are so frozen you can not muster the energy to endure the blast of -30 outside, you can eat in the cozy warmth of the restaurant which is reasonably prices. 3. The showers have an individual hot water unit per room. 4. Staff are helpful in calling taxis and showing me around the hotel (disclaimer: I speak Russian. When calling taxis they describe the number plate and car colour to you to meet outside and others may have struggled with this). Cons which are not the hotel's fault, but rather due to extreme weather: 1. The rooms get cold when it's -30 or worse outside. Understandably the 2 heaters in my room probably worked as hard as they could and neutralised -30 to 0 degrees. Wear plenty of clothes to bed - thermals underneath thick trackpants and hoodies. 2. The water unit, while very hot, only lasts 10 minutes tops in -30 weather. Ladies, I recommend only washing your long hair in one trip, and actually showering in another alternating morning and night. If your hot water runs out, wait about 40 minutes and it will return. Cons: The door handle was a bit old and the lock security was a little questionable and definitely no natural light. Your skylight is covered in snow and attempting to open will end in disaster. Given the challenges of extreme weather, I say the hotel has done a good job under the very difficult circumstances. Bring hand warming packs and lots of thermals to stay warm if coming to stay during a Siberian winter.

Menshikov hotel is located in a small courtyard off the pedestrianised bit of Lenin St so about a 7 minute walk downhill from Sovetskaya Square. There's a Bistro next door and a few other cafe/restaurants nearby. The hotel offers room only but despite the lack of windows ( there are skylights) the rooms are neat, clean and comfortable and they're ensuite.

“Like a nice little prison with a good location”

The pictures look much more better than reality. Bad experience at the check in: I booked a room with double bed and bath and receive and a single room. They changed it but did not receive the bathroom with bath (only a small and not functional shower). Many things do not work properly in the room.… lisää

They changed it but did not receive the bathroom with bath (only a small and not functional shower). Many things do not work properly in the room. The main door is permanently locked: in order to enter/exit the reception should open it (feel like to be in a prison). 눇 Very good location on the main walking street (Arbat)
