“Five-Night Stay at Westin Cam Ranh (Platinum Bonvoy Member)”

We spent five nights at the Westin Cam Ranh over Christmas as Marriott Bonvoy Platinum members. Check-in We arrived late at night, and check-in was fast and efficient. We were able to select the welcome gift of breakfast for two. Unfortunately, there was no room upgrade available due to full occupancy, but the team kindly moved us to a room with a better view on our final two nights, which we appreciated. Room The rooms were spacious, modern, and well-appointed, with a balcony overlooking either the pool or the garden area at the back. Housekeeping and room service were very responsive—any request was usually attended to within minutes. Breakfast & Dining The buffet breakfast was quite limited for vegans. Aside from salads and fruit, the only vegan options were hummus, baked beans, and steamed vegetables. We were extremely grateful to Nhu, who went out of her way to help us pre-order vegan dishes each morning and ensured everything was served correctly. We especially enjoyed the Vietnamese pancakes, which we ordered most days. That said, there is room for significant improvement. Vegan and vegetarian labelling was inconsistent and, at times, incorrect. Some dishes labelled as vegetarian contained meat, and “vegan” was often assumed to be the same as vegetarian. On several occasions, menu items marked as vegan were later found to contain dairy such as cream or cheese. Even the plant-based Beyond Burger listed as vegan was later confirmed not to be fully vegan. Clearer and more accurate labelling would greatly improve the dining experience. Given the resort’s remote location and limited nearby dining options, this issue becomes even more important, as guests are largely dependent on the resort for meals. Pool & Beach The pool area is beautiful, with plenty of loungers, and ordering food and drinks via the app was convenient and efficient. However, we did encounter an incident where guests were smoking in a clearly marked non-smoking area. While staff were informed, enforcement was slow and indirect. More proactive enforcement of resort rules would be appreciated. The beach itself is wide and scenic, but unfortunately not well maintained. The beach beds appeared poorly kept, there were no staff present, and plastic rubbish regularly washed ashore and remained throughout our stay. Most resorts clean the beachfront in front of their property, so this was disappointing. Gym & Activities We used the gym and attended several fitness classes. While adequate, the classes did not meet the high standards we’ve experienced at other Westin properties. We also rented the pickleball court for an hour (for a fee), and the hotel provided paddles, balls, towels, and water, which was appreciated. However, the court was not well cleaned, with empty water bottles left behind. It was also unclear why pickleball incurred a charge while the basketball and tennis courts were free, especially as the pickleball court was mostly unused during our stay. Noise & Overall Experience During our stay, a large corporate group was also in-house, which unfortunately resulted in significant noise and late-night partying on our floor. We contacted reception at around 11:00 pm, and while the noise temporarily subsided, it resumed about 30 minutes later. Overall This is a beautiful resort with modern rooms, friendly staff, and great potential. However, the lack of peace and quiet, inconsistent food labelling, and maintenance issues detracted from what we had hoped would be a relaxing holiday. With improvements in these areas, the Westin Cam Ranh could offer a much more refined and enjoyable experience.
