“Amazing stay - will definitely return!”

Visited last weekend with friends, a beautiful hotel in a perfect location! The staff went above and beyond to help where they could! Food and drinks were fab and the rooms clean and spacious!

We were leaving a lovely week short break in the Lakes to drive back up to Edinburgh that day, so as it was another gorgeous sunny day, we decided to take a walk around Grasmere village and then have a big lunch before the drive home. We wanted to check out The Swan's amazing big beer garden, which was even better in real life than the pictures! They allowed us to park in their car park whilst we took a walk around the village and couldn't be more accomodating. Brilliant service. They have a fantastic drinks selection of whiskys, gins, rum, lagers etc. I had Aspell cider which is great and a really nice Belgian beer called Blue Moon which I'd really recommend. The designated driver had the Morgan Spice zero non alcoholic rum, which was delicious and you couldn't tell the difference in flavour from the alcoholic rum! As for food: we had chicken Jalfrezi, which is great especially nice poppadoms (they should include mango chutney though and maybe raita. It's also quite spicy but a good level). And the prawn, courgette linguine which is real nice. With 2 sides of good chunky chips. For dessert (which we usually don't go for) we had an excellent rhubarb and ginger crumble with custard, a lovely marmalade sponge - nice n fluffy and light and an amazing vanilla creme brulle (lovely crunch) with a very tasty, refreshing rasberry sorbet and piece of shortbread. This was standout for me - excellent. Non of the desserts we had were overly sweet or sickly. Really nice. Left wanting more. So props to the chef. Overall we had a great time in The Swan and would love to go back on our next visit to the Lake District.

“Extremely disappointing stay.”

Great location. Stayed previously for one night which was a Christmas present so we thought we would treat ourselves to a two night break. Great location. Stayed previously for one night which was a Christmas present so we thought we would treat ourselves to a two night break. Quite disappointing room ( room 8) was decent size however even though it is advertised as recently having gone through a major multimillion pound refurbishment the ceiling had a large stain and cracks also on wall there was another long crack and stain and gap between wall and skirting board. Uncomfortable bed and pillows. Very noisy on our final evening appeared furniture was being moved /dragged around on ground floor and lots of shouting (we did mention this when checking out however young gentleman shrugged his shoulders and just said was this downstairs? i said yes and that was the full extent of our checking out experience) No help with carrying cases up to room even though it was visible that my husband has walking difficulties. No allowances made for us not having a mobile that was able to download your app so we could relieve your cleaners of cleaning the room and taking advantage of a free drink with our evening meal,( i did ask the lady on the desk if it were possible without the app and was just told no, no apology) Hence we decided let the room be cleaned the bedroom was the bathroom was not! Evening meal on first evening was ok nothing special. The full breakfast was poor (i mean its the first time anywhere we have received half a slice of bacon!) I do realise it is a difficult time for hospitality however having paid over £330 for two nights the least you can expect is a good nights sleep, decent hospitality and a healthy size breakfast.

“I wouldn't bother....”

I wouldn't bother unless you like a rather tired place, minimally staffed ( it's Wetherspoons style ordering by table number at the bar at breakfast), and you enjoy a breakfast with all the cost stripped out. Suffice to say you will be disappointed unless you are a fan of mediocrity. On a slightly more positive note, our room was decent enough. The place is overpriced and I for one will probably seek to avoid "The Inn Collection " going forward ... I am a bit concerned as to how it has earned a Traveller's Choice badge...it doesn't warrant it if only for the poor breakfast ( such a key part of a hotel stay and so poor at this place). TT has told you how it is...
