Coral sands is a lovely hotel. Arrival: We stayed in November 2023 with the rest of my family for my parents 60th Birthday. All of our rooms were in the first floor overlooking the pool and sea. When we arrived c. 4pm Saturday afternoon, we were greeted by the front desk. The process to pick up our keys was quick and we were in our rooms in no time. Location: The location of this hotel is pretty great. You are literally on the beach and can see the sunsetting over the horizon in the evening. It's secluded but equally close to a couple of fantastic restaurants (e.g. Champers) that are in walking distance. A taxi was easy to request from the front desk and the prices were fair. Food & drink: The food at the hotel was okay. It's pretty similar to what you would get at an all inclusive (i.e. club sandwiches, burgers etc.). The breakfast was decent enough but nothing to write home about. It should be noted that dinner is not served at the hotel but I'd recommend going for a short walk towards St Lawrence Gap if you wanted to choose from a selection of fairly priced restaurants. The drinks were always pretty good. Banks beer always exceptionally cold, very nice rum punch and a selection of cocktails if that's what you fancy. They were all priced as you would expect so around $16 Barbados dollars for a strawberry daiquiri for example. My only issue with the service would be that if your party asked for say 3 club sandwiches, the person who was at the pool bar would then leave for 20 minutes to make the food. There wasn't a designated chef at the hotel which meant wait times could end up being longer if you just missed an order. Not a huge issue but was slightly frustrating at times. Turtles in the bay: Arguably my favourite moment of the whole holiday was finding a turtle going about its business in the bay outside the back of the hotel. This was something I had read about prior to visiting Coral Sands and I wasn't disappointed. It should be noted though that the current could be very strong here. The first two days I tried to go out snorkling I was unable to due to the strength of the current (I'm an intermediate level swimmer I'd say). It would pull you 2-3 metres p/s if you started to try and swim. However, the morning of day 3 was when I found the turtle. Having looked for 40 minutes, I was about to head back when I saw what looked like a floating tyre in the distance. Lo and behold there was a rather large Leatherback turtle grazing on the reef. I followed the turtle from a couple of metres back for 30 minutes are so and they weren't phased in the slightest. We got to see a couple of turtles during a sunset cruise, but this was far better as the turtle was in its natural environment and not being chased by impatient tourists. Seeing a Leatherback in the wild was a bucket list moment and something I will never forget. Conclusion: Thoroughly recommend this resort/hotel for the price and location. I hope you too are lucky enough to have the experience my family and I did when we stayed here.
