“Beautiful wet stay”

The floor was slippy from where it had been mopped and it didn’t dry! The staff were very kind and helpful and the guides on the tours exceptional. It is all in and the food was a bit school canteen.

“Large and busy resort style lodge.”

We visited as part of a small group wildlife tour. First of all, we were surprised that the access road via the banana plantations was unpaved considering that this is a key tourist destination. Arriving at the boat pier lots of people were milling around waiting their turn and making use of the chargeable toilet facilities. The boat transfer took safety seriously with life jackets being provided and insisted upon. The driver (John) was very keen eyed and pointed out lots of wildlife on the way although by the end of the journey the loud engine noise was very wearing. We were allocated room 76 which was comfortable enough if a little basic. As the furthest from reception it was a long walk with luggage. It was very close to the Monkey restaurant which had spotlights on all night that made sleeping difficult and where staff arrived chattering and clattering about 5am to set up for breakfast. With unglazed windows external sounds carry and we enjoyed hearing the frogs and howler monkeys but not the human noise. The tree next to the room was home to white faced monkeys who were very entertaining even when fighting and chasing over the roof. Meals were served buffets of mass catering standards and adequate quantities with the exception of dessert which were small portions with no choice. The queue for the egg station was long at breakfast. There’s plenty to see and do around the hotel; we visited the town and beach of Tortuguero by boat and took a wildlife trip into the mangroves with guide John. On foot we took some of the trails and saw around 6 sloths. Two or three nights is an ideal stay.

The lodge is well run, in an outstanding and spacious setting with lots of areas for relaxing in. Food is ok with usually 3 choices of main course and the menu seems to rotate every 3 days. The lodge is well run, in an outstanding and spacious setting with lots of areas for relaxing in. Food is ok with usually 3 choices of main course and the menu seems to rotate every 3 days. On our 4th night we were offered a special so they seem to note length of your stay and adjust for you - very thoughtful. Beds, bathrooms and rooms are comfortable. Note no glass - insect screens - to combat humidity and heat. We were not particularly kept awake despite jungle noise. We had a semi - detached room. All well, not luxurious, but had outdoor rocking chairs. Guides and trips were good - you go everywhere by boat. Recommend the Tortugeuro hill trip (400 + steps note) , the village itself, across the lagoon and obviously boat trips into the national park. When it rains the open boats are equipped with excellent rain ponchos for guests so you are not getting too wet and can see the wildlife. Drinks are reasonably priced and there is a nice bar overlooking the lagoon which we visited for cocktails and wine, the bar tender was very friendly. Beautiful sunset views from this spot. The turtle shaped pool and sun loungers in a garden with a small waterfall was much appreciated and beautifully clean. If I had to criticise i would just say that there could have been more choice of dessert at dinner and that the ambience of the dining hall could be improved by softer lighting, to make it less of a canteen experience. Also the queue for the omelette/egg station was often offputting but we found this in other hotels in costa rica. One other thought for management: any chance of offering a laundry service or a ultility room on site where guests could wash some clothes? This could be charged, but would be much appreciated by those who include this lodge as part of a much longer holiday. We had 3 weeks in Costa Rica and Tortuguero and this lodge are one of the highlights. We very much enjoyed our stay here.

“Your go hungry”

Fantastic location deep in the jungle, rustic and simple rooms and nice swimming pool and bar. Unfortunately the food is terrible and obviously there is nothing else available. Why did the food let this hotel down! - only 2 options per night, buffet style which ran out and was not replaced. You ar… lisää

Fantastic location deep in the jungle, rustic and simple rooms and nice swimming pool and bar. Unfortunately the food is terrible and obviously there is nothing else available. Why did the food let this hotel down! - only 2 options per night, buffet style which ran out and was not replaced. You are split between 2 restaurants on pre allocated tables, so could be sitting with anyone! Breakfast just got worse, one egg station which ran out. Such a shame.
