We had a three night stay at Manatus Hotel. It is a wonderful place and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. We arranged our own boat transfer from La Pavona as this fitted in better with us driving from Sarapiqui in a hire car our arrival was a little later than the hotel’s own transfer so we missed the visit to Tortuguero town. We were offered the chance to do this visit on another day but we preferred to take all the nature watching boat trips we could. The weather on our first day was torrential rain, but we were lucky to have sunshine on the second day. That enabled us to see the area in two different “moods”. We took two boat trips each day which were included in the price of the stay. The guides were excellent. We especially enjoyed our trips with Luis. A highlight was sitting quietly with the boat pushed into the undergrowth and having a group of white faced capucin monkeys pass right by us. The hotel room was very comfortable; the most luxurious of our trip to Costa Rica. We enjoyed the restaurant meals; the menu doesn’t change but there was enough choice for us for three nights. The “all inclusive” price is fair considering everything has to be delivered by boat. Most drinks are extra, but it is a nice touch to be able to have a coffee from the restaurant at any time. Sitting watching the river drinking a beer was magical, although insect repellent is advised. Despite the name of the hotel your chance of seeing a manatee is about zero, but otherwise the birds and wildlife abound. It was a very memorable stay.

“Lovely hotel!”

We stayed here for three nights on our tour of Costa Rica. What a lovely little hotel this is! In spite of the weather ( it rained non stop) , this was one of our favourite places. We stayed here for three nights on our tour of Costa Rica. What a lovely little hotel this is! In spite of the weather ( it rained non stop) , this was one of our favourite places. We arrived there by boat ( no cars here) , boarding about 40 mins away. At the dock, they are obviously trying to make improvements to make climbing aboard easier. As it was, you had to get on the boats by sliding down the very slippery, muddy bank. Sensible walking shoes are essential. We were greeted at Manatus and taken to our very comfy room. It was spacious with two large double beds. The bathroom had both an indoor and outdoor shower. Due to the weather we did not use the latter! We were full board here and the food was varied and well prepared. The drinks were not over expensive. There was a lovely swimming pool but unfortunately the weather was against us! We visited the local village and had two nature outings on the river. Thanks to Barney and Luis for their knowledge and nature spotting skills. Thank you to all the staff at Manatus, we really enjoyed our stay.

“Nice hotel and surrounding rain forest”

We had a 2 night stay here which included river boat cruise and all meals. We opted for an additional night tour in the jungle which was great for frog spotting. The hotel had nice views of the river and room pleasant. The breakfast was a plated service which was delicious and staff friendly as was… lisää

“Lovely small hotel set in beautiful grounds with amazing staff”

This was the first placed we stayed in Costa Rica after leaving San Jose. It was an amazing experience from the moment we were picked up in San Jose. This was the first placed we stayed in Costa Rica after leaving San Jose. It was an amazing experience from the moment we were picked up in San Jose. The river boat journey of 1.5 hours to reach the hotel was amazing (lots of wildlife to see). Our guide for our two day stay - Luis - was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Luis and the other staff members made our stay very special. The hotel was small and the rooms were comfortable and well designed. The hotel grounds were delightful - full of wildlife including monkeys and sloths. I would recommend the night walk as additional activity. The boat trips guided by Luis were also amazing. I can highly recommend this hotel and wished we had stayed for one more night.
