Restaurant was good. Staff is good and helpful. Only issue was we had booked a lot of activities in Manuel Antonio not realizing this is 30-40mins away. Nice area.

“Friendly, roomy and endless, open beach”

This was our second stay at Cocomar, which is a lovely, low-key hotel right near the beach. Do not expect anything nearby. It's a bit of a drive down a bumpy road. This was our second stay at Cocomar, which is a lovely, low-key hotel right near the beach. Do not expect anything nearby. It's a bit of a drive down a bumpy road. What you get is a long stretch of deserted dark sand beach, large, family-sized apartments, with full kitchens and living rooms and a relaxed atmosphere. You can get a suite with a lock-off hotel room and get what amounts to a two-bedroom apartment that has three private balconies if you ask for the second floor. You will need to rent a car. There are dogs - well behaved dogs, but they do bark at night. There is little indigenous wildlife on the property - the nearby palm oil plantations seem to have taken it all out, although macaws do fly around. There are some other birds, as well, some squirrels, lizards and iguanas but no monkeys. The food is not great but the service is friendly and fast. The wait staff will know everything about you after the first day and will remember your preferences. Everything is very clean. It's not luxurious. It's only about 15-20 minutes off the main highway and while it seems close to San Jose, it can take 3-5 hours to get to the airport because of traffic. But you can be at Manuel Antonio Park in about an hour and a half. DO NOT forget to book Manuel Antonio online ahead of time and do not fall for the parking touts. Also very close nearby is Rainmaker, a fun park with many waterfalls and hanging bridges. The little town of Parrita has everything you need - restaurants, groceries, bars. It's about an hour to the big resort town of Jaco.

The restaurant quality has gone down significantly since last visit and review. They let the best chef go and now the food is sadly not even a fair meal. The restaurant quality has gone down significantly since last visit and review. They let the best chef go and now the food is sadly not even a fair meal. We had 4 people out of our party of 11 who only ate a couple bites and left the meal, stating it was not edible. The old Chef, Pito is now at a restaurant in Parrita, Coco Loco and is the place to dine!
