“Honest review - the good and the bad!”

Today is our last day at Rixos Radamis (Blue Planet) - on the whole we have had a very good holiday and good stay at the resort. Today is our last day at Rixos Radamis (Blue Planet) - on the whole we have had a very good holiday and good stay at the resort. This is mainly due to the service received off some staff - Abdelmonem, Mohamed & Walied at the Veranda buffet restaurant (they always worked on the outside terrace) who have been attentive throughout our stay getting us tables and offering good service throughout. I would definitely recommend getting to breakfast no later than 9am as it can get really busy but Abdelmonem, Mohamed & Walied always helped secure us a table. The food at breakfast and dinner is very repetitive but it was good and we ate on an evening at the A La Cartés or went out the hotel. Mohammed (with the glasses) at the pool bar Blue Planet side who was always willing to get us drinks and help us when needed - very friendly. Mohammed (I think he’s the manager he wears a blue waistcoat) at the Blue Panet Lobby bar always went above and beyond - we knew we’d get on well with him when we arrived and he was celebrating when Egypt beat Australia in the World Cup. He brought us drinks and secured us tables even moving them when there was no where for us to sit. We thoroughly enjoyed all of our visits to the A Là Carte restaurants particularly Mandarin, T-Bone & Mangal where service and food was impeccable and we are glad we emailed the hotel prior to arrival as it would’ve been chaos booking in resort (as everything always showed fully booked). The food was good at L’Olivio, but service abit off due to how busy the staff were. The food at Rasam and Cactus was not our favourite however service from staff was okay. The cleaner in our room did a good job for the most part however for a 5* hotel it was disappointing that they stopped cleaning our room properly two days prior to leaving (even when we put the ‘make up our room sign’ on) and just dumped towels in the room and didn’t restock the fridge.. it was also disappointing that there was no towel art, or iron within the room or attention to detail like in previous stays in 5* resorts in Egypt and Turkey (we did also tip daily). The reception staff are nothing more than rude and useless - unwilling to offer help or support (unless your Russian) and there’s no queuing system so we were forever pushed in front of after waiting for 30-40mins and repeatedly told to come back regarding a late check out to then eventually be told ‘No rooms, nothing we can do’ or speak with guest relations who equally weren’t helpful (and should the hotel wish to contact me I can provide names) but they would’ve known sooner the hotel was fully booked. I appreciate the hotel being fully booked and a late check-out room being a luxury however there are no facilities for showering after check out in Blue Planet or Tirana and that you have to go to Block 15 Beachside to use the 3 showers and that is is a free for all again very disappointing for a 5* hotel of this size with multiple guests checking out a day. This hotel is very predominantly Russian and it is clear that most of the staff favour them and would do anything for them with the exception of the above that I have named. The buggy’s weren’t a big issue for us as we walked around the resort (once you get your bearings it is easy) but there’s no queuing system and you will be pushed in front of even when staff see you as they favour other guests. The Blue Planet Pool is just missing a little bit more entertainment/music/pool games as it still has a lot of families and children in this area and not everyone wants to go over to Tirana. It would’ve also been nice for the entertainment to be spread out and for some of it to be at Blue Planet as it is all down at Beach Side despite Blue Planet having a big arena area which is wasted. The World Cup area at the executive lounge at Beachside was a very good concept and an enjoyable experience but if it wasn’t for this I don’t know what we would have done on an evening as the entertainment and shows felt very orientated to the Russian guests. We were warned about noise from building work and this could not be heard in Blue Planet and only when you were near the water park, but the resort itself feels unfinished with shops vacant, areas shut (the salt pool) and work still being completed - in a few years this hotel will be even bigger. Overall, I would say that this hotel would be better if it was slightly smaller and there was more care and attention from all staff rather than a few staff members especially because of the cost and how expensive it is, I was expecting a lot more especially when you see the Instagram pages which now on reflection only shows things from those ‘superior guests’ who are Club Privé and have big Instagram followings. I wouldn’t return to this hotel despite having a great holiday (it is what you make it ultimately and we made it a great time despite the negatives).

The hotel is much bigger than you might expect. While that sounds like a positive, it can be quite tiring to go from one area to another under the sun shine with kids. Having stayed at Rixos Seagate two years ago, I can honestly say that Seagate offers a better overall experience. Unfortunately, some of the staff were not as welcoming as expected, especially at the reception. We had an unpleasant experience with Mohamed Reda Oun and Markos. The food was below our expectations in terms of both quality and variety. On the positive side, the kids' club was excellent, the à la carte restaurants were very good, and the aquapark was enjoyable. However, it consistently closed about 10 minutes earlier than the posted closing time. One of our biggest disappointments was the sea access. The sea was only open for swimming around 11:30 a.m., which was far too late. Because of this, we were only able to swim in the sea three times during our entire stay. Overall, the hotel has some great facilities, especially for families, but there are several areas that need improvement to match the standards we expected from a Rixos resort.
