We have just returned home after spending a week at this hotel as 2 couples in our 20s. We had the best time, it was so peaceful, modern and clean. We have just returned home after spending a week at this hotel as 2 couples in our 20s. We had the best time, it was so peaceful, modern and clean. The staff were absolutely lovely and the rooms were amazing. We did have to get a lot of Ubers everywhere as there’s not much around the hotel but it was worth it. The sunbeds are the comfiest sunbeds we’ve ever had abroad. Highly recommend this hotel for a relaxing trip away!

“A nice hotel with lacklustre service”

Overall a really nice hotel but with a great variation in helpfulness of staff. Some were super-helpful and some appeared fed up. Service in general was lacklustre. Food was average but breakfast was good. Receptionist was responsible for handing out and collecting towels which seemed unnecessary and generally it felt like there just weren't enough staff to look after everyone properly. Rooms were nice. Would return but eat out next time.

I chose The Flag for a break near Malaga after being very impressed by their website. Here’s my experience: Location & Accessibility: I wouldn’t recommend visiting without a car. The hotel is quite isolated, and reaching a supermarket requires walking over a freeway. There aren’t any good restaurants or bars nearby, so you’re essentially limited to the hotel’s bar/restaurant, which I found overpriced (€12 for a drink you’d pay €5 for in Malaga) and uninspiring. Parking is advertised at €15 per day, which initially put me off renting a car. However, I believe street parking in the area is free—worth checking before paying the premium. Public buses go to Marbella and Estepona, but returning after dark felt unsafe, as you have to cross the bridge and walk through a quiet, dimly lit neighborhood. Room: The room itself was very nice, with comfortable beds, a large fridge, and kitchen facilities—perfect if you want to cook your own meals. Shower design was problematic: it was an open shower that overflowed easily, making it hard to take an everything shower, (ie washing your hair). Coffee was provided via a Nespresso machine but only as a “welcome coffee,” with no refill options?! No slippers or bathrobes were included. Balcony noise depended on neighbors; early mornings were peaceful, but later it became noisy, and some guests smoked marijuana. No full-length mirror, which I found unusual. Hotel Amenities & Features: Adults-only policy is “recommended,” not enforced—there was a baby and a young teenager during my stay. Private beach access is beautiful, and the beach itself was better than in Malaga. Sun umbrellas are available for free—a great service. Hallway water taps are convenient. TV includes Netflix. Overall Impressions: Pros: Private beach access (not private beach), comfortable beds, full kitchen, Netflix, great sun umbrella service, sound healing class on Sunday evenings. Cons: Isolated without a car, overpriced hotel restaurant, shower issues, limited nearby dining options, variable balcony noise, and adult-only policy not strictly enforced. Pilates class ok for beginners but boring if you practise pilates regularly.

I’ve just stayed at The Flag in Estepona and, at first sight, it really does take your breath away. The hotel is modern, stylish, and absolutely beautiful. The design is stunning, the atmosphere feels luxurious, and breakfast is excellent – varied, fresh, and one of the best I’ve had in a long time. On appearance alone, this place easily deserves five stars. That said, there are a few details that really let it down, and they’re all things that could be so easily fixed. • Water jugs & filter taps: Each corridor has a filter tap, but there’s nothing in the apartments themselves. The jugs in the rooms don’t say anything about this, and the only way you find out is if someone happens to mention it. For a hotel of this class, that’s a silly oversight – it should be explained clearly at check-in. • The lifts: . There just aren’t enough of them, and they’re also used by staff with cleaning trolleys. In most hotels of this standard, staff step aside to let guests use the lifts, but here they insist on staying in. It feels awkward and, frankly, rude. To make matters worse, there’s a sign by the lifts saying it’s “healthy to take the stairs” – written only in English, in a primarily German hotel. It comes across as sarcastic and a bit insensitive. • Massage experience: The biggest disappointment was booking a 50-minute massage which ended after 38 minutes. When I complained, I was offered a 15-minute credit. To me, that’s unacceptable – if I pay for 50 minutes, I expect 50 minutes in one session, not split into odd instalments. Despite these frustrations, I want to be fair. This hotel has so much going for it – it’s beautiful, stylish, and the breakfast is genuinely superb. But small things make a big difference in hospitality, and The Flag needs to tighten up on these points if it wants to match its looks with true five-star service
