I've stayed at this B&B several times over several years and I am always looking forward to staying here. Franco and his staff have gone out of their way to accommodate me and they are so helpful and friendly with any request. Franco knows a lot about the area and its history and he is ready to loan you his books about this part of Italy. The rooms are simple but are kept very clean and well supplied. The internet works fast, which, in my experience, isn't always the case around these parts. The location is excellent for travelers without a car. All sightseeing and the fantastic museum are on walking distance as is the beach,the open market and the shopping area. Of course having the train station on a stone warp distance is a great plus. Sicily is a 20 minute ferry crossing away.

excellent location next to train station and mcdonlands, nice comfortable room sky tv ac, a lot of information provided the owner was very polite and helpfull nice shower, I would definitely stay here again

Having only a two night stop over in Reggio Calabria and travelling on the trains, we looked for accommodation that we could book 2 rooms, was close tot he station and convenient to restaurants etc. Abacus B&B ticked all the boxes and some. From the time of booking we had excellent communication with the owner Franco. This continued from his greeting of us at the door and his extensive guidance and advise on the facilities in RC, restaurants to eat at etc. He is a lovely chap and manages his facility with pride and enthusiasm. The B&B was a real surprise. The rooms are very large, very nicely furnished with quality furnishings and the ensuites likewise. This B&B could show many 4&5 star hotels in Europe how to present rooms. It was wonderful. Breakfast was provided at the cafe next door that is open from 5am. Franco recommended 2 restaurants and we ate at each on successive nights. They were excellent and the prices very reasonable. The B&B was so nice we were disappointed our stay was only 2 nights. Reggio Calabria has much to offer so we will definitely be returning and will not hesitate to book the Abacus B&B again. Thanks Franco!

“PROTECTED!!”

Franco was a very friendly man, met us at the train station and helped us with baggage to B&B that has NO elevator and 2 flts of stairs to our room. Front door has no window but securely locked; up 2 flts of stairs to 'reception' behind another locked/bolted door with no window. Our room is just… lisää

Franco was a very friendly man, met us at the train station and helped us with baggage to B&B that has NO elevator and 2 flts of stairs to our room. Front door has no window but securely locked; up 2 flts of stairs to 'reception' behind another locked/bolted door with no window. Our room is just on the right of the desk....quite spacious, clean and with a little balcony overlooking the street below - BONUS - WE COULD SEE MT. ETNA when it was clear!!! At sunset one nite we took photos! The lighting in the halls was set by 'motion detection' when it was dark except they didn't always work so here we are trying to make our way down stairs that we aren't familiar with and then, by accident, found a switch that would turn the lights on. Great...........remember that when we come home later after dinner. If we needed Franco after that first encounter - it was written that we could contact him to make an appointment to meet with him?? That is because, there is no one at the 'reception desk'. The shower water was tepid.......not hot at any time. The rate to stay here for 3 nites was 180 Euro which I felt was fair. This was, and is not, my idea of a BnB. I have never stayed where there is no one present to ask questions of - especially when we were in an area where the language was not English and we are not even remotely close to being able to speak Italian enough to easily find out answers to questions we had. I realize it is not their responsibility to enrich our vacation but sure would be helpful if someone was available to help tourists enjoy their time in this little city. The location of this BnB is excellent! It is necessary to leave the bldg. for 'breakfast' with a voucher for ONE DRINK AND ONE PASTRY next door. I must say, they are sooooooo busy next door it is amazing how quickly they handle so many customers! We enjoyed Reggio di Calabria on the whole............siesta time is a pain but that's custom so you have to deal with it. Franco suggested an excellent restaurant - LA CANTINA DELLA SUOCERA - we ate there the 3 nites we stayed in Reggio! The food was absolutely fantastic and the servers were very good - even the ones with little English. It's well worth trying!!!
