We chose this hotel well before the covid-19 started. During the quarantine period we were in touch with our nice and very kind host Marianna and she kept us informed when the travelling was allowed again. We spent 6 days at Hotel Matarese and took with us heartwarming memories! Thank you dear Marianna, Francesca and your dear father, too! :-) The hotel is situated on a hillside not far from the port and center of Casamicciola, also from Terme, on the island of Ischia. From the very first moment we felt at home. Marianna organized us a taxi transfer and we were welcomed at the reception. We had nice rooms in the garden ( we traveled with a boy of 17). Dinner and breakfast was served in the garden, distance was very well kept and all the disinfection was properly done. Marianna and Francesca are the sisters who run this family owned hotel and it couldn't have been better! We felt as members of the family, the food was amazing, the atmosphere in the garden was just stunning, orange and lemon trees, exotic plants, nice music with very kind owners who did everything to pamper us. The garden area of the hotel is huge and we were lucky to be taken into the secrets of a Mediterranean garden: having bananas from the tree, lemons, mulberry, pears, grapes, figs, tomatoes. The view from the rooftop was amazing and the garden was cooling and a nice place to read and relax under the kiwis. All food was prepared with ingredients from the garden so we had the chance to enjoy the taste of home grown vegetables and fruits. Francesca cooked us delicious pasta and fish as well as meat. Marianna was an amazingly kind and helpful host, she showed us all the directions, gave instructions about places to visit, where to buy the bus tickets and many more. In the evenings we were excited to find out the menu of the day and to have a chat with the family and discuss the daily excitements. For the ones who want to remain in contact with their loved ones via wifi, can be done in the garden and in the room as well. But we preferred better to enjoy the relaxing garden and the view and excluding the internet as much as possible. A few buses stop almost in front of the house, so it was easy to get home in the evening. During the day we preferred walking down the road, which was about 5-7 minutes and took us into the port of Casamicciola. Marianna also reserved us beach places, as the beaches at this moment need to be booked in advance. As the whole island of Ischia is worth being visited, we took the bus the other days and went to different places and beaches. It was hard to say goodbye to this beautiful and warmly welcoming family and hope to be able to come again! Thank you so much for making our stay unforgettable. Warm hugs from Elizabeth & family.

The hostess Marianna was super helpful from sending is directions before we arrived, letting us add an extra night on our booking, allowing us (two couples) to both stay in garden rooms, sending us off with amazing plums and apricots from their garden, setting up a simple car rental and best of all, giving us excellent advice for what to do. She really made the visit perfect. The gardens are lovely. Beautiful views. Her dad (we think) was very sweet in showing us around the garden. So worth it!

“Charming and inexpensive”

We chose this hotel for the location and price and were not disappointed. From the moment we walked in the door, Marianna the owner was extremely friendly and helpful. Our rooms were simple but charming and super clean. The breakfast was varied and delicious, The hotel is a 10 minute walk to Casamicciola port and there is also a bus right in front of the hotel which was punctual. The hotel gardens are relaxing and maintained and a nice place to just relax before or after the beach. The wifi worked perfectly too.

“Such an amazing stay with such a hospitable and caring team of people.”

Marianna and her family really took the care in welcoming my mom and I to their lovely b&b. Marianna had always made sure that we had everything we needed and were tended to from the moment we walked in the doors. Marianna and her family really took the care in welcoming my mom and I to their lovely b&b. Marianna had always made sure that we had everything we needed and were tended to from the moment we walked in the doors. There is an amazing garden where they grew their own fruits, vegetables and flowers. We had amazing breakfasts there with homemade ingredients and fresh fruit. That was often the highlight of our day already and also waking up to the ocean view of the apartment that we were staying in. We were in such awe with the views and the garden that we had to walk through to get to our apartment. I was sick one evening and Marianna was very concerned and made sure that I had tea to make me feel better. Marlene made the breakfast and also did the cleaning. She was also key in making our stay so enjoyable as well. The B&B is spotless and tastefully decorated. You are about a 5-10 minute walk to the harbour and shops. We took the bus and they would come every 10 minutes or so, a very practical and cost effective way of getting around the island. I highly recommend staying at Pensione Matarese and am talking to about it with my friends and family to go there. We didn't want to leave!
