We stayed 3 nights at Villa Belmonte. As near as I can tell the only difference between Villa Belmonte and Hotel Belmonte are the caliber of room, which floor you stay on, and the price. They are both located in the same building, use the same elevator, access to the same rooftop terrace, share the same breakfast. Our room was well appointed with more conveniences than one might expect for the price. The A/C functioned perfectly which was so important. We happened to be there during a fluke heat wave from Africa that had even the locals complaining about how hot it was for April. We used Villa Belmonte as a base for day trips to the Valley of the Temples and the Villa Romana del Casale near Piazza Armerina. We had planned to use it as a base for visitng Agrigento, perhaps the coast, and maybe Enna, but the heat was too much to take in the afternoon, so plans changed. That meant we had a bit more time to enjoy the room and hotel than we might have otherwise and to explore Favara just a little. At night, it was so quiet, especially after coming from hotels in big cities where it never seems to get quiet. If you are going to be in the area for business or pleasure, and don't mind driving into the center of an old historic center (having a tiny car will help), I highly recommend this establishment. It is located only a few steps from the main piazza in town where there are many options for eating, including a great gelateria that stays open late. We ate one night in the restaurant that is on the ground floor of the hotel and the food was delicious, creatively prepared (a delightful fresh fava bean puree), and reasonably priced for the caliber of food. It was a slow night so we were able to work with the chef to get a somewhat customized dinner. Well worth it. Now, about the breakfast that is included in the price of the room. We were expecting the usual: caffe, pastries (not always fresh), yogurt. When we entered the dining room the first morning we were floored by the selection. It was more of a breakfast buffet! There was cereal (at least 2 kinds), milk, yogurt, 2 kinds of fresh orange juice, fresh baked pastries, fresh fruit crostata, fresh baked cakes, Sliced meats, fresh fruit, pecorino cheese and honey, fresh ricotta cheese, even limoncello if you so desired, and more. Far too much to eat. Then a custom made caffe or cappucino while you were eating. Absolutely incredible. The whole package was a great bargain. If we are ever in Favara again, we will gladly stay at Villa Belmonte. We both admire the owners for their efforts to breath life back into the historic center of Favara. They are working on a new luxury spa facility right next door that is to open sometime next year. Bravissimi!

We seem to be in the minority of reviewers in that we stayed a whole 6 nights in Favara and found plenty to do and see in and around the area apart from the Valley of the Temples , including Sciacca, Eraclea Minoa, Turkish steps, walks around the coast and in the many nature reserves, and the Villa… lisää

We seem to be in the minority of reviewers in that we stayed a whole 6 nights in Favara and found plenty to do and see in and around the area apart from the Valley of the Temples , including Sciacca, Eraclea Minoa, Turkish steps, walks around the coast and in the many nature reserves, and the Villa Romana in Piazza Armerina. Staff at the hotel are extra-helpful and we really enjoyed our stay. The roof terrace was a huge plus. The bedrooms were light and airy and we had no trouble at all with parking (although we did have some interesting trips down narrow roads advised by Satnav). Would strongly recommend.

“gem of a hotel near temples of Agrigento”

!5 mins easy drive to amazing Agrigento temples. Stylish hotel , nice roof terrace. Excellent dinner ,much better than the average same menus we found elsewhere. Charming family running all aspects of hotel. Without me asking, they even took my broken glasses to the optician. Slightly confusing na… lisää

“Great little hotel, warm hosts, best bet for visiting Agrigento”

Indeed it can be a bit confusing finding your way to the old center of Favara, but you'll know you're close when you see the big old cathedral looming over the old houses. We had a great stay at Hotel Belmonte. Indeed it can be a bit confusing finding your way to the old center of Favara, but you'll know you're close when you see the big old cathedral looming over the old houses. The town is small, not much to do, but you feel like you could be in a movie set. We were warmly welcomed by the staff and owner, helped in with our bags and they even took our keys and parked our car nearby. The rooms are generous in size, clean and newly renovated with modern and tasteful furnishings. The owners are frequently on site and really worked hard to make sure everything was just right. We booked dinner in the hotel restaurant for the night we arrived and were delighted by the excellent cuisine and equally strong wine list, mainly of Sicilian wines. Again, they were very accommodating for us and our young children. And while in Favara, be sure to walk over to the Art Park - an indoor/outdoor installation of contemporary art in what was a falling apart housing area. Very cool. Do not miss. And yes, only 15 minutes to the valley of Temples in Agrigento. Considering what Agrigento has to offer, you are better off staying in quiet Favara at this lovely, family-run hotel.
