We spent one week at Canava Studio, in Mesaria. George and his assistent Ina were great hosts and the welcome was truly warm. Ina prepared every morning a copious breakfast with local specialities and we enjoyed it in the garden. George gave us good advice about activities and spots to visit in Santorini. The accomodation is very well situated, in the middle of the island. Since it is an ancient cave, it preserves fresh air during summer. We really recommend this place and would love to come back. There are shops, a pharmacy, an ATV agency and a lovely traditional restaurant nearby. Everyting was on top. Efharisto !

“Wonderful Canada Cave Houses”

We stayed at the cave houses for 7 nights and wish it was longer. We were greeted by George, the owner, and given lots of helpful advice on how to get around and where to go. We stayed at the cave houses for 7 nights and wish it was longer. We were greeted by George, the owner, and given lots of helpful advice on how to get around and where to go. Ina cleaned our room daily and prepared breakfast, nothing was to much trouble for her. The complex of 4 unique homes was spacious and inviting. We would love to return and will definitely recommend to friends and family.

“Amazing stay and experience”

These were wine press caves. Caves converted into quaint and spacious accommodation in Santorini. Loved the place, the experience. Excellent host George, very helpful. Breakfast arranged by Ina, sumptuous spread and served in the open courtyard. Sit back, relax and enjoy the ambience. Old church nearby. Walking distance to groceries, restaurants, 5 min drive to airport and Monolithos beach (sunrise!!). Only thing I'd call upon is that it is a bit cold in the cave, stock up on blankets. The bathroom shower areas to have curtains to eliminate splash. Clearly will be up there, one of the best across all my travels.

There's not much extra to say about the cave house that hasn't been said by others: the customer service was excellent throughout (from George's initial meeting, briefing to breakfast each day and the cleanliness of the villa). And the villa itself provides unique accommodation with lots of home comforts - spacious lounge, two big bedrooms, two well-equipped bathrooms and a kitchen with all modcons, including fridge, coffee maker etc. The location wasn't quite as expected- being up a narrow alley and tucked in between a ruined mansion house and some residential developments - but the walled garden gives it a peaceful oasis feel and the sun terrace up the steps is a great area for sitting out during the day or at night. Overall, we enjoyed our experience of Santorini.... we had good value food at Mike's in the centre of Mesaria and really liked Kamari beach on our visit there. We also visited Perissa beach and it is very pretty, but there wasn't enough better about it to justify the additional 45mins to get there on the bus in the heat. The walk down to Skavos rock at sunset was also very memorable, as was a visit to the Good Heart restaurant down near Akrotiri - where we had great food and service on the last day. The slight downsides to Santorini/Mesaria are that the bus service was very unreliable when we were there (mid Aug) and we were reliant on public transport. Buses that didn't arrive, or were too crowded to get onto, happened a few times and made travel with the kids a challenge on hot days. And the main town of Fira is very pretty, but just a bit overrun with tourists (says the English tourist!!) Unlike Naxos, where we stayed before and Crete where we went after, Santorini felt a little more like a 'one trick pony' - where the amazing/unique caldera and cliff top views are the main attraction, but could probably be seen in a day/evening. The centre of the island and beaches aren't as interesting as those on the other islands we visited. But that is not to take anything away from the cave houses at Canava Santino, which offer an excellent standard of accommodation and service and an almost unique stay. The surrounding ruined mansions (left since the earthquake of 1956) give an air of intrigue too and, with a hire car, getting around the island from here is very easy.
