Stayed here for five nights with my husband, four year old son and seven month old daughter. The hotel feels like a bit of a throwback; I'm sure it was quite cool in the 70s, but it's looking a bit tired. It's in the middle of a gated community of villas, and was built in the 70s. While we were there, they were painting and re doing the outside of the buildings (not noisy or anything, but an effort to tidy it up, I think). The rooms were quite basic; double beds, a kitchenette, shower room and a balcony. They weren't able to provide a cot for my daughter, and suggested we pushed the armchairs together (which we did). They didn't provide any extra bedding for us. She can't really move much, but if she was a little older this wouldn't have been suitable. The room had air conditioning and a ceiling fan, which we had on quite a lot as it's quite a hot and humid atmosphere in Manzanillo. The AC was pretty noisy but effective. The common stairs didn't have AC, and you felt the heat as soon as you opened the door! The hotel has wifi, but it's the connection was poor in the room we were in. The pool is nice, and there was a guy cleaning it regularly. The swim-up bar in the pictures didn't look as though it had been used in quite some time. There's no lifeguard or barrier, so you need to be watchful with small children - my son enjoyed climbing and jumping in, but the shape of the pool means there are lots of unsighted areas. The pool can be shady during the day, which is welcome relief from the heat. Staff were helpful, helped book us a taxi and order us a pizza. There are shops nearby - a more modern one near the gates into the area, and an older one towards the beach. Both provide the basics, but you'd need to get the bus or taxi into town for more substantial shopping. We went on a trip to the town, which was ok (45mins-1hr on the number 1 bus. Be careful dismounting, I fell off the bus!). Not very much to see, but a nice children's play park on the front and good ice cream. We also headed along the beach (turning right when you hit the shore!) to the parasols at the far end. This was nice - there was a cooling breeze, you can rent a parasol and deckchairs, and there are lots of people selling fresh fruit, food and various wares along the beach. The sea isn't deep there and my son loved jumping in and out of the waves. We visited the small shopping mall near Walmart, which had some nice shops selling clothes and shoes and a lovely wee children's toy shop which sold a range of Melissa and Doug products.

“Nice and quiet place in Manzanillo”

Nice and quiet place in Manzanillo close to the beach. Large rooms with balkon. Standard is ok, not luxury. Nice Pool with a bar. Parking place outside the hotel and 150 m to a local store. 3 min walk to the beach.

We stayed at the Tenisol Hotel in January 2013 for three nights. It is located in the gated community of Club Santiago, a community of condos and vacation homes. The hotel had probably been first class when first built, stone and granite floors and counters in the rooms but anything that was wood or metal was showing wear from the ocean air. The stucco on the exterior needs repair and gives the hotel a shabby appearance but it has a nice pool surrounded by nice gardens. The hotel room was large, clean, had a bar fridge and comfortable beds. It is two blocks from a very nice beach for walking and swimming and a good beach-side restaurant called the Oasis. We had a good breakfast at the hotel restaurant and the service in the restaurant was good. The service from the front desk is of varying quality. We booked through Booking.com and was quoted in US dollars before taxes but paid in pesos with taxes so it was a little hard to tell whether we were getting the quoted rate or not. The evening staff at our visit didn't speak English, but the lady on the desk during the day spoke very good English. They will call you a cab or you can walk to the end of the road and take the bus into the town of Santiago or Manzanillo. You can get laundry done in Santiago. Santiago is a nice Mexican town which has been incorporated into the city of Manzanillo. We took the bus into Manzanillo but beyond seeing the wharf where the sport fishing boats were coming in with their catches of marlin and the iguana reserve, we wouldn't go again. The bus ride took about 45 minutes. Lonely Planet called it a town that didn't know whether it wanted to be an industrial town or a tourist town and they pegged it right. The town plaza is nice but has a huge tanker ship sitting just in front of it.
