“Nice apartments with a few shortcomings”

We had two ground floor apartments on the right side - 4 and 5. Overall these are modern, well equipped, pleasantly furnished apartments. We had two ground floor apartments on the right side - 4 and 5. Overall these are modern, well equipped, pleasantly furnished apartments. They are located two minutes from the coast path, a bakery and the sea, and 10 minutes to the huge beach on La Grande Cote or two minutes drive to St Palais town, both with good restaurants. The kitchen isn't huge and has only two electric rings but a good microwave/infra red oven - so I wouldn't cook a Sunday dinner but it is fine for lunches. There is plenty of crockery, pans, utensils and so forth to the extent that there is no where much to store food. The kitchen is also short of places to hang towels. The fridge is good but has no freezer box, and take your own dishwasher tablets as they are expensive to buy from reception. The bathroom is fine, lots of hot water, fair shower etc. The bedroom is comfortable, the bed is fine, there is a shutter door on the outside which does a good job of making the room dark enough to sleep. It has five shelves for clothes but a drawback is that the only place to hang clothes is on a rail in the broom cupboard, which is not ideal. A vacuum cleaner, brush, mop etc are provided but no cleaning materials. The lounge has a good TV, sofa, table etc and is quite comfortable. The sliding doors have a wind-down shutter to keep the light out when required. The patio has a table and four chairs and is great for eating out. There is plenty of free parking though you might not always get it outside your room. There is a nice small pool and a small kids play area, petonque court and table tennis table at the back. The biggest grumble I have, considering the rental price, is the charge for linen and cleaning. At this price it should be covered. There is no WiFi in the rooms and you have to pay for it in reception, when it should be ubiquitous and free as at the campsite up the road we normally stay at. Free WiFi is available at the Cafe Chez Bob in St Palais, at the tourist office and at the Royan tourist office.The staff were friendly and helpful. Overall we would stay again though.

We have stayed in this area many times before, but not at these apartments. Biggest gripe was no Wi-Fi. The camp site where we usually stay has free Wi-Fi, but this had none in apartments and only pay Wi-Fi in reception. The kitchen area in the apartment was well equipped, except for no British-style can opener. However, it was so well-equipped that there was nowhere to keep food except in the small fridge, which had no icebox. The glasses & crockery were very distinctive, so if you broke something, you had to pay at reception to replace with exactly the same kind, and with hard, tiled floors, I was worried about dropping something. It would have been useful to have hooks in the kitchen to put towels and tea towels on, and a dish drainer. The dishwasher was very welcome but the wine glasses did not fit in it. Also, the only hanging space for clothes was in the cupboard with mop, broom, etc. and I do not want to keep my clean clothes with cleaning materials. There was no full-length mirror either.

“Great base for a lovely part of France”

We visited in July 2015. More used by Us as a base. We were pleasantly surprised by the lovely apartment. Modern with a lovely living: kitchen area, double bedroom and mezzanine for the children. We visited in July 2015. More used by Us as a base. We were pleasantly surprised by the lovely apartment. Modern with a lovely living: kitchen area, double bedroom and mezzanine for the children. The balcony was a bit poky so it was difficult to sit out. Pool is small but nice. Well located as near to lots of facilities and the beach. It would have been nice to have had some evening entertainment or bar. Also - the kitchen is fab but only had one chopping board, no bread board and no draining board. Overall would recommend.

Great location at the Grande Côte, close to the beach, some restaurants, a very good bakery and not too far from Saint-Palais-sur-Mer. The apartments were mediocre though. For the price we paid, we are used to getting much more comfort. The apartment itself was nice and clean (although we had a bit of an ant problem), but the decor, facilities and equipment just mediocre. The furniture looks nice, but is very uncomfortable and unpractical. The bed was horrible, our bodies were painful after 2 days, ditto when we sat on the couch or the dining chairs for a while. The fridge was small and there was no freezer. There was only few cutlery, glasses and plates (4 of everything in a 4 person apartment), which meant that the dishwasher had to work overtime. The pans were too big for the (2) cooking plates, so it was almost impossible to use both plates. The balcony had a nice size, but because of the table and chairs it was impossible to open the windows and shutters without moving the furniture around. Wi-Fi is not included in the renting price but has to be paid separately for quite a high price. We are not used to that in these modern times. The swimming pool was nice. Clean and of a good size. However there were only 3 parasols available, which was not nearly enough for all guests looking for shade. People were dragging their chairs to sit next to some bushes just to hide from the sun. Also, there was a large set of rules at the entry of the pool, but they were not enforced. Especially in our 2nd week balls were flying around and the pool was filled with air beds and toys. Also, a lot of noise and screaming. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

“not great value for money - better for older couples.”

location is great, right on the Stunning Grand Cote. that is the only thing in favour of this place. we have been to this area many times over the years, and have stayed in various cottages, campsites , and holiday villages, often returning to the same site. location is great, right on the Stunning Grand Cote. that is the only thing in favour of this place. we have been to this area many times over the years, and have stayed in various cottages, campsites , and holiday villages, often returning to the same site. I would not return here. on arrival we appeared to be the youngest there, (aged 50) lots of couples in the their 70's or older. saw a few families during the 2nd week but there is nothing on site for children. the reception is plush but given the price, and that the apartment was supposed to be big enough for 4 , it was very small and a bit grubby. the kitchenette area was tiny, no ice box in fridge. 2 ring hob and a microwave, so you couldn't cook a meal, and no food storage. the living area has a dining table and a sofa bed which was grubby and I don't think there was enough floor space to have opened it out to use as a bed. the bedroom had only about 50cm space all around the bed, no seat or mirror in there. on arrival they are a bit uptight and obsess about doing an inventory and emphasise the need to clean when you leave, but there was nothing provided apart from mop and brush and hoover. usually there is something in the cupboard, eg detergent and cloths which you use and replace as needed, but nothing here, though they offer to sell you cleaning materials, etc at ridiculously inflated prices. i hired bed linen but it was quite old, discoloured and worn. there are many other residences around St Palais/Vaux/Royan/La Palmyre which are far better value for money.
